Hi everyone, I would like to ask the previous students on how was their experience with their mentors. I plan on enrolling for Period 39 and might choose Topic 8, so can someone suggest mentors. I live in Saudi Arabia (Middle East), and there aren’t many mentors here (almost non), so any sort of suggestions would be welcomed.

    Thank you,
    Tasbiha Liaqat.

Usually we have a special Forum thread in March when the results come out and students often post their feedback there about mentors. This is probably really useful as we try to ensure that all posts are from genuine students so you get first-hand feedback

Unfortunately as the results are being delayed until mid-May we obviously won’t be creating the thread until then. However with the search facility you may be able to find our Period 35 & Period 36 threads to guide you.

Mentors and students often live in different countries, the main issue you will face is that your meetings will have to be conducted via phone and email as Skype and FaceTime i don’t think are available in Saudi. Another source of mentors is the OBU list however they will usually just present you with a list I.e. It does not contain any recommendations.

Hi. Your absolutely right. Skype and whatsapp doesnt work (video calls) here in KSA. I have seen the previous threads and saw how students recommended many similar mentors TLL i guess.
I emailed OBU and they sent me a list of mentors but honestly the list just contained names, email and city. Wasnt so helpful.

    Thank you.

OBU tend not to recommend mentors because they are supposed to be impartial.

Although I do not offer mentoring for Topic 8 myself I have a former colleague who is on the RAP Marking Team who has a similar level of expertise and experience and probably she could take you on for Period 39. If you contact vis my website absolutementoring.uk I can forward your email address to her

    Good Day everybody

How can an individual wanting to newly register as a mentor, do so?

I wanted my line manager to be mentor due to familiarity and he ability to help me, and not get a mentor from the registered list.

I understand that if a new person wants to register, they have to pay a fee and register, but I am not sure where he can do this.

Please may anyone assist me by sending a link or an explanation?

    Kind Regards

Every mentor has to do the online mentoring course so contact acca@brookes.according.uk

You may have to get a move on though if you want them to be your mentor for P39 as I think they have to have passed the course by about the end of this month as the university closes the mentor list at that date. So if they haven’t cleared the course they won’t be able to act as your mentor for P39′

No, although we will do our best to answer queries posted on the forum Open Tuition does not of itself provide mentoring.

If finance is a problem then Oxford Brookes provides bursaries to students suffering from financial hardship. Details on how to apply are in the Information Pack

    Dear Trephana,

Thank you for your response. However, Financing is not the issue.

I would like to know when we can start RAP, if we want to complete it in year 2020 (Period 40)?

You can start your RAP when you want and although some mentors might take you on a year ahead most work on a 6 month maximum turnaround i.e.starting in November 2019 (or later) for the P40 submission in May 2020.

There can be issues starting too early as the topic titles could change and with Topics 8 and 15 the industry sectors change every year

Your initiall post is a bit confusing as Period 40 relates to May 2020 and you talk about September 2020 which is in between then and P41

    Hi Amy

The following thread should be of your help
    https://opentuition.com/topic/advancing-the-quality-of-the-obu-opentuition-recommended-obu-mentors/

This might be of your interest too https://opentuition.com/obu/

Also, a humble request please ensure to use the search facility before starting a new topic. This is to help keep the OBU forum tidy 🙂
    https://opentuition.com/topic/please-keep-our-forums-tidy/

I personally think that there are threads present over the OBU forum about everything and anything a person would want to know about the OBU BSc degree!

    Hope this helps.

    Absolutely recommend Gillian Moorse!
I failed P39 and decided to take on P40 with only one month of time left. I am not in the same time zone as UK, so slightly apprehensive about overseas tutor. Decided to try it after seeing good comments on her mentoring. True enough, she is very on time on the reviews and critical about the shortcomings and helpful to know where to help. Its is a tight month to revise the RAP report, but I did it with her constant help!

    Thank you Gillian Moorse!
