Hi there
I’m based in South Africa and there are no mentors here who are registered with the OBU programme. Can anyone recommend a helpful mentor, even if that person is based in another country? My time is running out and would like to start next week if possible!
Desiree
September 1, 2016 at 5:59 pm #336868If you read the answers above you will see that you can select a mentor anywhere in the world and have the meetings via Skype
September 8, 2016 at 8:26 am #338946Please note we do not allow self- promotion by anyone. If you wish to recommend a mentor this should only be done on the basis of PROVEN results and the appropriate forum would be when the P32 results are released.
Open Tuition reserves the right to check out the facts stated and will verify with OBU that the pass rates cited are true and correct. This is to protect students.
All personal email addresses will be removed as in the first instance all students should contact a mentor via the OBU mentor website where a complete list of mentors is held. ( Kindly note that inclusion on the list means the mentor has passed the OBU mentoring course -it is not a recommendation in itself by OBU)

@Trephena . Was only trying to help my fellow colleagues and you know that some african students do have the funds to get pay high fee mentors.
This mentor was my senior colleague in my ACCA pursuit. An ACCA member and doing Msc professional accountancy . I could give you her contact to have a chat with her yourself in case you need to do a preliminary check.
As I said was just trying to help. Note also the bulk of the RAP lies with the student not any mentor. Thanks
September 8, 2016 at 11:31 pm #339220Thanks for your explanation. It is a difficult one – only last week I had to remove a post from someone falsely claiming a 100% success rate for the last 3 periods when they have only recently just passed the mentoring course (and had therefore never had the opportunity to mentor anyone ).
At Open Tuition we feel we owe our students a duty of care so they know they can trust us as a reliable source of helpful information. In essence I am only prepared to endorse mentors who I know are good at what they do and like us at OT are operating in the best interests of students (rather than seeing the position of mentor as a means of exploiting students financially ) whilst recognising that as a professional they cannot offer their services for free.
If you want to send me your mentor’s details then fine. Alternatively perhaps she may wish to answer student queries on here as a means of demonstrating her knowledge and commitment? On production of a copy of the certificate issued on completion of the OBU mentoring course and ACCA Reg. No. we will put the appendage ‘OBU Listed Mentor’ after her name showing on posts. I can be contacted at :

@Trephena thats fine with me. I was only trying to assist some students that can not use anna mentor or learning lumanium ( I think I did not get the spelling). The mentors abroad are damn costly.
This mentor is working in a bank so she might not be able to reply promptly to our posts but based on the effort OT is ensuring that they maintain their duty of care I think she will rise up to the challenge.
I will make her contact you and also email you too. Cheers.

October 9, 2016 at 12:52 pm #342785Hi,
I am looking for mentor for May 2017. Each time I write someone from obu website or on linkedin no reply, just automatic emails. I consider topic 8 or 15. Can someone advise me how to find mentor quickly, because obumentoring database apparently do not work for me.
I have another question not related to above. Can I enroll and pass p1 exam before submitting RAP? Or after passing any of P exams you are no longer eligible for OBU degree. Currently I am eligible for OBU on myACCA account(F1-F9 passed).
Thank you in advance.
October 10, 2016 at 4:53 am #342840Hi bik123,
I understand your situation, I was also struggling back in that time to find a credible competent mentor how is not just concerned about the mentoring fee.
Fortunately, I came across with Irwin at the Learning Luminarium. I highly can recommend him/them. Google the name and contact them. The other one: P exams and OBU are unrelated, go for P1!
October 10, 2016 at 6:10 pm #342904Hi,
Thank you for your reply however Learning Luminarium charge SGD800 which is too expensive for me. Is it possible to find something below 300 pounds??
I would appreciate any other suggestions
Thank you,
October 12, 2016 at 10:25 am #343033thank you for your responses
Anyone had a experience with virtualmentoring? Are they reliable?
Thanks
October 12, 2016 at 1:02 pm #343047They are OK, you will get required service.
October 13, 2016 at 12:40 am #343105I think the mentor behind it is reputable – this is important as some mentors are unscrupulous.

It depends on mentor to be honest , just remember the mentor you select is pivotal, select one who actually gives you time on the project, i failed the first time just cuz of this issue and got a really gem of a guy in my second mentor

Hey Bik, i can suggest you a mentor you will not regret ! trust me he is very hardworking , involved in the process and awesome value for money , i can share his details with you if u want Cheers mate
December 15, 2016 at 8:59 pm #363823Please do not use our forums for self-promotion See or forum rules)
If you are a genuine student and your mentor is as renowned as you (under various login names) keep plugging, then please send me his name. If he is reliable and has a good track record we will include the details on our forum but we insist on checking his credentials with OBU to ensure any pass rates are real and he is regarded by OBU as operating to high ethical standards.
Further posts will be removed until you provide these details.
December 16, 2016 at 9:07 am #363840It is not self promotion, and he is not aware of this at all, if he feels he wants to get in opentuition than its his choice, i was just sharing my experience with the community , and how mentors these days are taking the fee and doing absolutely nothing in return , i was suggesting a good mentor to my friends , not out of any personal gain mind you, if someone like me who has suffered from these issues gives advice , you say its self promotion, im not forcing anyone to join a mentor or anything , im highly suprised by your assessment and wouldnt want to continue writing in this forum,
December 16, 2016 at 10:48 am #363844Suddenly in the space of an hour or two about 6 posts from 3 ‘different’ participants all with a similar writing style all appeared on our forums most of which had nothing to do with the forum topic title but all mentioning the importance of choosing a mentor and offering to share the mentors details – what conclusion would a trained forensic accountant make other than this is a concerted effort to plug a particular person (self-promotion)?
I agree choosing a mentor is of prime importance which is why we take this very seriously at Open Tuition. We verify all claims made by mentors to PROTECT students from being exploited by false claims. We also are aware that some mentors have been delisted by OBUI for breaching ethical standards. We therefore vet those offering mentoring services to ensure they comply with our own high standards. Whilst students may recommend whomever they wish to their friends etc. we will not allow our forums to be used as an endorsement for anyone’s services until these are verified as worthy of endorsement.
December 16, 2016 at 12:10 pm #363851Why didn’t you just post the name of your mentor, instead of twisting around and scamming! Just like Scammers.
Scammers are bad!

Please do not continue to reply , i have no interest in replying back, as God my witness i had no bad intention or to scam! I was just suggesting my mentors name who helped me pass, i will not disclose his name as i suggested that he does not even know about it, thank u to all who have labelled me as a scammer ! This is what i deserve to pass some advice
December 16, 2016 at 12:33 pm #363854If you pass information as scammer then you will get labelled one. Next time don’t post same information repetitively and with different a/c as this is what scamming is.
Peace out.
December 18, 2016 at 6:10 pm #363965Greetings and Warmest Salutations,
My name is Faizan Farooque and I am an ACCA Member with an ACCA Member No. of 2420376. I am also a registered mentor with Oxford Brookes University.
I visited these forums numerous times when I was a student myself and I have often complimented Open Tuition on the commendable work that they performed for ACCA students and teachers, that too free of cost.
It started an urge within me to partake in this great endeavor so that I too can take the vision of the founders of Open Tuition forward. So therefore I would like to offer any assistance that I can to potential OBU candidates both those who have passed as well as those who wish to resubmit their project.
Thanking You,
Warmest Regards,
Faizan Farooque
December 18, 2016 at 8:13 pm #363982Thank you for your comments. I have always suggested that students who have found our OBU forum helpful and have been successful with their RAP should try to help other students achieve a pass and offer relevant advice. Therefore if you wish to respond to student queries on the forums then please post your answers to appropriate questions that you feel you can answer to help students. I understand that you are new to mentoring and this way you will gain some valuable experience in dealing with queries.
You may also find it helpful to read through old posts on various topics including our tips and articles as we have lots of invaluable advice which can help students achieve a pass first time round. You are welcome to use our material and articles to assist you develop your mentoring skills with students however as our articles are copyright you should acknowledge that this material came from Open Tuition.
December 19, 2016 at 5:55 pm #364038I’m looking for the best mentors to help me pass my RAP in the second attempt, and I want to make sure its my final one. Please suggest only if you know for sure they’re the best. Thanks.
