Best obu mentor? Learning luminarium or Anna mentor?
Trephena can you please help me with this as I am very much confused.
ThanksJune 3, 2016 at 12:42 pm #319116I am sorry I cannot tell you which mentor to use as it may depend on what exactly you want from a mentor service and how much you are able to pay. Both mentor organisations probably offer different packages to suit your particular requirements..
Both mentor organisations you name are reputable but the Learning Luminarium is based in Singapore and Anna is UK based. The LL are able to review your work with the same sort of critical eye as a marker and although Anna may be able to do this to a certain extent, as she has only been mentoring since 2014, critical review is something that comes with experience. However this is an extra service offered in one of the LL packages and may not be something that you want anyway.
I suggest that you read our Forum Topic ‘Advancing the quality of the OBU-Open Tuition Experience’ where some students have left feedback on the Learning Luminarium – who we are retaining as our recommended mentors for P33 and P34 (based on their 100% pass rate for the report for P31) but also contact Anna and see the testimonials on her website. Look at what both offer, the price and make your decision based on that.
June 17, 2016 at 6:07 pm #323311is there any link to see mentor geographical list?
June 17, 2016 at 10:13 pm #323325Dear All
could you tell me, how much i should pay to my mentor for mentorship?July 19, 2016 at 12:35 am #327435Hi,my mentor lives in uk and I live in pakistan so is it permissible by Oxford Brookes university to have a mentor like this who actually doesn’t live in your country/region
July 20, 2016 at 9:58 am #327938Yes. Skype and technology mean that many students and their mentors no longer-term physically have face to face for their meetings
PLEASE NOTE we already have a,forum topic on mentoring -as with any question please post under an existing topic rather than opening yet another one on the same subject – thanks

July 28, 2016 at 10:39 am #329970How can i get in touch with an online mentor…preferably anna lishman
July 29, 2016 at 9:08 am #330110@tariro21 – to make initial contact with any mentor you are advised to register as a mentee on the OBU mentoring website where you can then contact any of the listed mentors via the mentoring portal. Otherwise you may contact Anna Lishman via her official website. I believe she charges GBP450 for acting as your mentor
August 20, 2016 at 10:25 am #334181Hi,
I am looking for mentor for OBU project. Is there any list of mentors except of these listed on Oxford Brookes website?
Thank you
August 21, 2016 at 5:54 pm #334401No there is no other comprehensive list because all mentors need to be registered and comply with OBU rules including the one of not exceeding a maximum number of mentees (currently 50). OBU reserves the right to delist mentors who do not meet their standards and/or abide by their rules.
It is (a) not necessary to have a mentor from your own country as the ‘meetings’ can be done via Skype and (b) you are j unlikely to find a mentor in Luxembourg.

Hi there
I’m based in South Africa and there are no mentors here who are registered with the OBU programme. Can anyone recommend a helpful mentor, even if that person is based in another country? My time is running out and would like to start next week if possible!
Desiree
September 1, 2016 at 5:59 pm #336868If you read the answers above you will see that you can select a mentor anywhere in the world and have the meetings via Skype
September 8, 2016 at 8:26 am #338946Please note we do not allow self- promotion by anyone. If you wish to recommend a mentor this should only be done on the basis of PROVEN results and the appropriate forum would be when the P32 results are released.
Open Tuition reserves the right to check out the facts stated and will verify with OBU that the pass rates cited are true and correct. This is to protect students.
All personal email addresses will be removed as in the first instance all students should contact a mentor via the OBU mentor website where a complete list of mentors is held. ( Kindly note that inclusion on the list means the mentor has passed the OBU mentoring course -it is not a recommendation in itself by OBU)

@Trephena . Was only trying to help my fellow colleagues and you know that some african students do have the funds to get pay high fee mentors.
This mentor was my senior colleague in my ACCA pursuit. An ACCA member and doing Msc professional accountancy . I could give you her contact to have a chat with her yourself in case you need to do a preliminary check.
As I said was just trying to help. Note also the bulk of the RAP lies with the student not any mentor. Thanks
September 8, 2016 at 11:31 pm #339220Thanks for your explanation. It is a difficult one – only last week I had to remove a post from someone falsely claiming a 100% success rate for the last 3 periods when they have only recently just passed the mentoring course (and had therefore never had the opportunity to mentor anyone ).
At Open Tuition we feel we owe our students a duty of care so they know they can trust us as a reliable source of helpful information. In essence I am only prepared to endorse mentors who I know are good at what they do and like us at OT are operating in the best interests of students (rather than seeing the position of mentor as a means of exploiting students financially ) whilst recognising that as a professional they cannot offer their services for free.
If you want to send me your mentor’s details then fine. Alternatively perhaps she may wish to answer student queries on here as a means of demonstrating her knowledge and commitment? On production of a copy of the certificate issued on completion of the OBU mentoring course and ACCA Reg. No. we will put the appendage ‘OBU Listed Mentor’ after her name showing on posts. I can be contacted at :

@Trephena thats fine with me. I was only trying to assist some students that can not use anna mentor or learning lumanium ( I think I did not get the spelling). The mentors abroad are damn costly.
This mentor is working in a bank so she might not be able to reply promptly to our posts but based on the effort OT is ensuring that they maintain their duty of care I think she will rise up to the challenge.
I will make her contact you and also email you too. Cheers.

October 9, 2016 at 12:52 pm #342785Hi,
I am looking for mentor for May 2017. Each time I write someone from obu website or on linkedin no reply, just automatic emails. I consider topic 8 or 15. Can someone advise me how to find mentor quickly, because obumentoring database apparently do not work for me.
I have another question not related to above. Can I enroll and pass p1 exam before submitting RAP? Or after passing any of P exams you are no longer eligible for OBU degree. Currently I am eligible for OBU on myACCA account(F1-F9 passed).
Thank you in advance.
October 10, 2016 at 4:53 am #342840Hi bik123,
I understand your situation, I was also struggling back in that time to find a credible competent mentor how is not just concerned about the mentoring fee.
Fortunately, I came across with Irwin at the Learning Luminarium. I highly can recommend him/them. Google the name and contact them. The other one: P exams and OBU are unrelated, go for P1!
October 10, 2016 at 6:10 pm #342904Hi,
Thank you for your reply however Learning Luminarium charge SGD800 which is too expensive for me. Is it possible to find something below 300 pounds??
I would appreciate any other suggestions
Thank you,
October 10, 2016 at 7:24 pm #342917You might want to check Virtual mentoring, they are much cheaper. Even though they are also close to 3k pounds, but you can pay in installments, so it makes much easier.
https://www.virtualmentoring.net/
But, expensive mentors such as Anna, and Learning Luminarium are more experienced and chances of passing also increases, and you save your failure expenses.
Regards
October 12, 2016 at 10:25 am #343033thank you for your responses
Anyone had a experience with virtualmentoring? Are they reliable?
Thanks
October 12, 2016 at 1:02 pm #343047They are OK, you will get required service.
October 13, 2016 at 12:40 am #343105I think the mentor behind it is reputable – this is important as some mentors are unscrupulous.
