@faithcarey – this is not a question we can answer with authority as the rules relating to mentors are formulated by OBU. You will have to contact their admin office directly to see if they will accept this situation, for as far as we are aware all mentors must now be listed in order to have the authority to ‘sign off’ your work. Any deviation from this would have to have OBU’s endorsement.
February 10, 2015 at 5:08 pm #227692should i spend 500pound for bsc degree with C grade ????
February 13, 2015 at 3:09 pm #228274@zee90 – A good mentor should, provided you put the effort in from your side, help you pass first time which saves a lot of stress, hassle and of course a resubmission fee ofGBP 500 may be worth this. As I have said many times before – it is what suits your requirements and pocket. Yes I do think personally GBP 500 is excessive and in fact that anything much more than GBP 400 is stretching it unless the mentor is very exceptional – has an excellent track record and is experienced enough to give you good critical feedback on your work. Then they may merit the outlay as they are investing their skills in giving you an individual service like any professional (lawyers in the UK charge about GBP300 p.h for example so on that basis GBP 500 seems pretty reasonable!)
February 16, 2015 at 5:23 am #228520How can I find mentor for OBU ?
February 16, 2015 at 7:08 am #228524In order to access the list of qualified mentors for your OBU RAP, you need to register as a mentee first. Once you register, you will be taken to your dashboard. From there, you have the option to “Find Mentors in your area”.
Consult this link to intact with OBU Registered Mentors.
March 4, 2015 at 1:34 pm #231246Dears, I greet u all as we forge on with pursuit of our dreams. I’m wondering if there are any recommendations as to an affordable mentor out there? Any links and prices will really help
March 24, 2015 at 6:29 pm #238611Latest update on mentors from OBU:
The new online mentoring course was successfully launched in February.
Although it had been intended to make having a registered mentor mandatory for P30 this has now been pushed back to P31.
Although having an OBU listed Mentor is advised for P30 the old rules will still apply in May and therefore you will still be able to use any mentor who meets the requirements – see our information on Mentoring by accessing our homepage http://www.opentuition.com/obu

@crye it is a good idea to register on the OBU mentee program. You can get a lot of info from other students. I would like trephena’s opinion on http://www.virtualmentoring.net . They are the most reasonable that I’ve seen so far but I don’t know anything much about them
April 8, 2015 at 10:22 pm #240570@faithcarey1 – I do not know much about this organisation either so I can only make superficial and very general comments:
1. The style of English is not ‘British’ English
2. The information is long on generalisations and short on specifics e.g. compare what they say about T17 with what I say on the T17 forum – however of course I am giving advice for free and therefore am not motivated by withholding really useful information so that I can profit by then ‘selling’ it to students. By contrast this network is hoping to benefit from selling mentoring services.
3. We recommend The Learning Luminarium (based in Singapore) and ‘absolute mentoring with Gillian Moorse’ (UK). The standard of TLL’s English is more like British English (and of course Gillian is a native.English speaker)
4. I have said many times before, the right mentor is the one that suits your tastes and budget and has a reasonable reputation. No mentor can guarantee a 100% pass (even I couldn’t do that and I have more than 10 years RAP experience).
5. Just bear in mind that if you fail you will need to pay a submission fee for each re-attempt so having any inexperienced mentor can be a false economy. I am not saying this organisation is inexperienced but the potential resubmission fees are something you need to think about as part of your general considerations
Perhaps other students can comment on their experience of this organisation and I can ask my contacts at OBU to validate any claims made by named mentors?
May 9, 2015 at 12:12 pm #244923Hi
The News and updates OBU has the following info;
“Mentors & Mentoring Website
The revised mentoring programme and website were successfully re-launched in February 2015 (slightly later than envisaged), for this reason students will be permitted to use a non-listed mentor for the last time in P30 (i.e. the old rules will apply to the May submissions).
However from P31 all mentors will have had to have successfully completed the online mentoring course AND still be a member of ACCA with a current up to date subscription. Checks will be made on mentors to ensure compliance with OBU rules.”
I have two mentors;
-A Lecturer at a university lecturing ACCA and CIMA subjects.
Qualification B Comm in Accounting, MBA and full CIMA
-A close relative who has written and passed the OBU Degree topic 8
His a lecturer, ACCA, OBU degree, MBA.Both are not registered with the mentoring programme. Who would be the best person to use? How do I use a non-registered mentor?
Please help.
May 9, 2015 at 3:44 pm #244966@ruva – because the old rules apply I think they both qualify (see the Info Pack) May be easier to use someone who is an ACCA member in case they ask for their Reg. No.(but I don’t think they do). As far as I am aware the mentor does not have to do anything as such when you upload your work but a random check I think is made and certain mentors are asked to confirm that the Presentation has been done and the student did all the work (with some guidance of course) his/herself.
P31 will see the start of listed only mentors and students are advised to register on the OBU mentoring website -even if they already have chosen their mentor as some free resources are available there.
May 18, 2015 at 7:19 am #246742Hi Trephena
Please help. I am about to submit but do not know if there is any place where the mentor signs or maybe write their details? Where do i note my mentor in the whole process besides their guidance? Or maybe there is somewhere during uploading where i fill in their details?
Kind regards
May 18, 2015 at 8:25 am #246767@ruva – you will be asked to supply some details about the mentor during the uploading submission process. Take a look at the posts above (page 1) between avian will and myself last November as he provides a bit more insight into the background to it.
Well done for ‘knuckling down’ and getting your RAP done in time – and I hope it will be successful. Good luck! 🙂
May 20, 2015 at 4:44 pm #247423Hi,
I had changed my mentor for resubmission. But I forgot to change the mentor details as I was uploading the project. My old mentor has got the email…I’ve changed the mentor details now but my current mentor hasn’t received no mail…any ideas what should I do?
May 20, 2015 at 6:02 pm #247446@hassanhere – think this is something you should contact OBU about – it may not cause any major problems this time as listed mentors only comes in for P31 however if saves any later problems/ complications.
Send an email giving the new mentor details to acca@brookes.ac.uk and then you have covered yourself 🙂
May 20, 2015 at 7:49 pm #247467Thanks Trephena 🙂 I did email them.. they said I should ask my mentor (he’s registered) to contact them manually. They sent me a draft email.
June 16, 2015 at 7:15 am #257208Hi,
Am new to the forum.
I just want to find out if anyone is experiencing any problem with selecting a mentor from the OBU mentor drop list. I have been trying for over a week to select a mentor.
My several attempts appears successfully sent but I have not received any feedback from any of the mentor I choose.
June 16, 2015 at 9:33 am #257253@boom20 – Are you using the very latest link to the website? I ask because I know the site was overhauled and relaunched in February so it is possible that this may lie at the route of the problem.
I suggest anyway that you contact the OBU Office (email address in the Info Pack) as like you, I would have expected mentors to reply more quickly. The OBU Office will look into it for you and they normally get back in 24 – 48 hours.
June 16, 2015 at 10:24 am #257258@trephena:
I think I visited the latest site, because I noticed some names have been removed from the list. Like you said I will give them a call. Thanks for your help.
June 16, 2015 at 7:07 pm #257352Can someone post the link? I have just returned and I am lost!
June 17, 2015 at 11:51 pm #257545@lizphil – try this
https://www.oxfordbrookesmentoring.co.uk/mentees/registerJune 20, 2015 at 11:58 pm #258226IMPORTANT REMINDER:
You must use an OBU Listed Mentor for all submissions from P31 onwards
YOU ARE ADVISED TO REGISTER ON THE OBU MENTORING WEBSITE. The reason for this is just because a mentor was listed previously does not mean they are still OBU recognised (any ACCA member who is not up to date with their subscriptions is removed as are any implicated in aiding and abetting cheating and copying) It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the mentor is listed otherwise they may not be permitted to submit their RAP
(For P31 & P32 we have decided to continue our endorsement of The Learning Luminarium as mentoring meeting the high standards we set but this is merely our recommendation based on proven track record and does not imply that other mentors do not also offer high quality mentoring)
July 1, 2015 at 6:11 pm #259253Hi
do i need someone who has passed the acca obu mentorship program, or would a university lecturer in accounting be sufficient.July 1, 2015 at 10:41 pm #259269@Raveen – you must choose someone who is listed on the OBU Mentoring website http://www.oxfordbrookesmentoring.co.uk
Register on this site and contact any mentors whom you consider may be suitable for your needs or contact The Learning Luminarium, our recommended mentors for Period 31 and 32 (who have at least 2 registered mentors and reasonably priced mentoring packages) http://www.LearningLuminarium.com.(You can read more about our students’ personal experiences with TLL on the Forum topic thread: ‘Advancing the Quality of the OBU- Opentuition experience’.
We are prepared to consider approving other mentors but they are required to have about 5 years experience, to have mentored at least 100 students personally and have a proven pass rate of at least 80% for first time submissions – and we will check this with OBU to ensure accuracy of information, before we will consider approving and recommending anyone.
Please note: This does not mean that other mentors are not capable – it just means that these are the standards we have imposed to ensure quality control)
August 1, 2015 at 8:47 am #264114Hi, does anybody know who is the best OBU Mentor in Islamabad? Please do respond. Thank you.
