The results of a chemistry examination are normally distributed with a mean score of 56 and a standard deviation of 12.
What is the percentage probability that a student will score more than 80?
the answer is
28%
Z-score = (x -?)/?
Therefore: (80 –56)/12 = 2
From the normal distribution table, 2 = 0.4772
To find the probability of scoring more than 80: 0.5 –0.4772 = 0.0228 or 2.28% as a %.
my question here is
what is mean score
and if you can give me more examples or expaination about it
The mean is the arithmetic mean (the average).
You will find out all about it with examples, and how to solve this sort of question in our free lecture notes and the free lectures that go with them.
The lectures are a complete free course for Paper MA and cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well.
I have go threw the lectures and notes again but I did not get the idea ,,
actually I did not find the mean score in the notes and lectures!!! can you help me to find this lecture ,to help me to get the idea please.
It is the lectures on Chapters 22 and 23 of our free lecture notes (‘measures of average and dispersion’ and ‘the normal distribution’).
