Hi. I just wrote the S23 SBL exam. Noticed most questions reward one mark answers, regardless of them being slides or briefing notes questions according to be marking scheme.
My question is has the syllabus changed from an answer well explained giving 2marks?

Use the mark allocations to work out how much time you should spend on a question/task element. Then write the best and fullest answer you can making sure you can explain and devlop your points.
For example, let’s say an exhibit says that interest rates are expected to rise and you are asked to set out an environmental analysis (probably making use of PESTEL. Potential answers could range from:
A Interest rates are expected to rise.
B Interest rates are expected to rise and that would increase interest costs.
C Interest rates are expected to rise and that would increase interest costs. The company has high gearing making use of variable rate loans.
D Interest rates are expected to rise and that would increase interest costs. The company has high gearing making use of variable rate loans, so the additional costs could be substantial.
E Interest rates are expected to rise and that would increase interest costs. The company has high gearing making use of variable rate loans, so the additional costs could be substantial. The company’s current interest cover is low so increasing interest rates could represent a substantial risk to the company’s survival.
A = 0 marks as nothing has been done with the information
E = 2 marks, I should think, because of the full analysis focused on the specific organisation.
