    Hello Mike,

I have noticed for P7 that some questions allocate 1 mark to each point while majority others allocate 1.5 marks.

I’ve been writing each point for 1 mark but I realise that my points are not explained in great detail when the mark allocation is 1.5 per point.

So I’ve just recently changed my technique to 1.5 mark per point but I realise that I do not cover as many points as the exam answers would when the mark allocation is 1 per point.

Also when I use this technique my answers are not always complete (it wouldn’t cover every single point the question wanted me to cover).

For example if an ethics question includes 3 different threats, I would tend to write only 2 different threats. I still give myself full marks anyway since my points are included in the marking guide(only when it states 1.5 mark each), but I’m a little skeptical about this.

Should I stick to writing a 1.5-mark-worth point to maximise the number of marks? Will examiners give me a credit of 1.5mark for each point even if the marking guide allocates 1 mark only?

I usually write about 2.5 lines for points that are worth 1 mark each, and 3.5 lines for points worth 1.5 mark each.

    Thanks in advance.

The problem is … how do you know in advance which points are worth 1.5 and which are worth just 1

Personally I would work on 1 mark per point and 2.5 lines per point

“Will examiners give me a credit of 1.5mark for each point even if the marking guide allocates 1 mark only?” – a marker cannot award 1.5 marks when the marking scheme says “1 mark per valid point”

    OK?

I’ll follow writing 1 mark per point then just to be safe. Thanks for the speedy response!
