Better than my first attempt in December.
I had q1, overseas individual, employee vs partner and some VAT
March 5, 2025 at 6:41 pm #715879I thought it was quite a hard exam, very minimal IHT and reliefs . Minimal marks for share schemes/tax planning
Exam breakdown- Section A
A)notes for training on GAAR
tax evasion definition
Tax avoidance definition
3 example of GAAR conditionsB) memorandum
Disposal of trading company- BPR 5C) memorandum
Gift of 3000 (part disposal as parent owned 10000IHT value of gift (part disposal based on share prices on % shareholding)
IHT and cgt calculationsSection B:
Income tax calc if gift is dividend or a bonus for employee and non employee
EIS Shares
Lots of calculationsWould love to hear on people’s answers etc as feeling shocking about the exam as I was quite prepared
March 5, 2025 at 6:56 pm #715881I had the same questions but mismanaged time badly on part A. It think it was too long anyway
On IHT, used value of shared before gift to work out IHT value for gift.
In CGT, thought that was SSE so no charge due
Income tax with bonus/div wasn’t too bad but didn’t get to Q3 at allMarch 5, 2025 at 7:35 pm #715885I had in section A same tax avoidance and tax evasion for 5 marks
Then b was group planning (I think 10 marks?)
The reliefs available and the reliefs that can be given 7 marks?
Gains group reliefThen Vat group and what they should consider including the companies 6 marks
Then SDLT on building where price included land 2 marksThen 10 marks for IHT and CGT (I didn’t have time to do this part)
Section B first question
Letting relief when property bought by Brian and company
Then explain with supporting calculations the incorporation relief given and the chargeable gain on sale of the assets
Then EIS scheme deferred gain and the it relief
Then question what will happen when this shares will be sold in the futureSection B second question
Calculate after tax income for inheritance tax of the gift
Calculate the tax payable if the 30k will be paid as dividends or bonus and recommend which she should chose
Appraisal of the tax assistant notes about car benefit calculationNot sure if I have missed something?
March 5, 2025 at 8:24 pm #715893I had the same questions as above
Found the exam difficult.
CGT and IHT were tested in such a weird way nothing like practiced (with Kaplan material).
Almost every question asked for supporting calcs which was unusual to see.March 5, 2025 at 8:24 pm #715894I had the same questions as above
Found the exam difficult. CGT and IHT were tested in such a weird way nothing like practiced. Very disappointedMarch 6, 2025 at 5:55 am #715903Same !! Could not get to Q3 at all and i feel heartbroken!! I was well prepared and that makes me more sad!!
March 6, 2025 at 8:05 am #715904@sonia94h Yes exam was quite unusual, making sense of some scenarios took a lot of time for me, i think the examiner wanted most students to fail and prepare for FA24 ATX syllabus because FA23 quite a lot of things were streamlined like those basis periods which are added again in FA24. I know i will be attempting it second time lol soo im going to start preparing in advance, no need to wait for the result. Some rates of CGT have changed in FA24 syllabus and Investors relief lifetime limits reduced, some changes to APR in IHT, lots of small changes in FA24 but the core concepts remain the same.
