It is often argued that not everyone can be a manager. Discuss how managers’ skills become important in performing the various functions of a manager. (30 marks)

Can you tell me how to discuss this question?

AB is purely an objective test paper and a question like this is not relevant to the paper

Very briefly, you could start with some theories about what managers’ functions consist off (eg Fayol, Mayo, Adair, even Theory X and Y).

Then look at some of these functions and think of examples of necessary skills that certain managers won’t have. For example, a manager who likes micro-managing is unlikely to be a success if managing people who are highly skilled and used to working on their own initiative.

Thanks for the help as well as immediate reply.
However, i have another query; should i talk on Mintzberg’s roles after talking on functions of a manager?

I have this question as an assignment instead of exams. This exams is related to AB as it will give me an exemption for the AB ACCA exams.
This is the only option i had due to covid19 cancellations of ACCA exams.
I will be really glad and thankful if you could provide me further light towards the question asked.
I have tomorrow as deadline to submit this question.
    Thanks for understanding
    Hoping to hear from you.

Mintzberg does have a theory describing managers’ roles so it would be fine to bring those in.

We do not think it appropriate to help with students’ assignments more than I have already suggested.
