Hi, panic starting to hit in and I am just getting a bit confused re main strategy models.
Is there a summary of when to use certain strategy models? In the context of a question?
I have this fear of midunderstanding what question asks using wrong model
Could it specify what to use or is there certain ‘key phrases’ we should look out for?
Thanks

Competitive environment analysis = 5 forces
Strategic position = SWOT including PESTEL, resources (M words) stakeholders mission
Portfolio = BCG probablyJune 9, 2013 at 3:25 am #130822Would you be able to clarify situations or ‘key phrases’ where we should use the following?

June 9, 2013 at 7:44 am #130836Suitability, Feasibility, Acceptability: assessment of a strategy or proposed strategy
Life-cycle: no general guidance
Ansoff: options to increase profits
Strategy lenses: no general guidance – rare
Mintzberg structure: would be asked for specifically
Diamond: competitive strength of nations
Value chain: usually specifically requested.
Strategic clock: an expansion of generic strategies
Ashridge: portfolios of companies
Generic strategies: very common to use this. Successful companies will already be using on. unsuccessful ones are currently stuck in the middle and will have to use on in the future.June 9, 2013 at 8:28 am #130839Tutor, do you have an example of a question where they ask the Mintzberg model specifically? I sometime think you can have different type of structure in a same firm. esp if the company is global.
June 9, 2013 at 10:47 am #130850To date there has only been one question expecting to see Mintzberg’s structures in the solution. This was question 3b on Dec 2010 paper (Frigate). It expected you to compare the current structure with the suggested structure (and that experienced by the person making the suggestions)
