Forums › CIMA Forums › Main Strategic Options
Good day,
I have a question regarding a question I received in an question. What would be regarded as the main strategic options open to existing businesses to prevent loss as a result of disruptive companies?
Would this be referring to the digital operating models of customer-centric, skynet, etc. or would it be the five ways organizations can approach self-disruption such as Bulid, buy etc.?
Thank you for your help.
I would go for the secon option. Not all disruptive technologies arise from digital causes eg non-carbon fuel cars are dependent principally on battery or hydrogen technology so comlanies like BP or Shell won’t make much headway in maintaining success by clever IT. They would be better off building or collaborating to obtain competing technology.
If the disruption arises from a digital technology cause then it is more likely that a digital response is needed.
Also, the second options are always inescapable.. It’s all very well saying that a specific digital solution is needed, but the company will still need to decide how to achieve that eg developing its own system, taking over a company that has the technology and so on.
