Hi, while i was reading through the notes, I got rather confused by the two terms public and private international law and what qualifies as examples of each. I do know that treaties and UN conventions are examples of public international law and I thought that model laws should qualify as public as well but while i was going through the BPP practises, it turns out that UN model law is part of private international law.
I would greatly appreciate any clarification regarding this.
Thank you and good day ahead 🙂
Public law is the law that govern the relationship between individuals and the state. For example, law governing the state’s interaction between itself and the citizens, whether those citizens are natural people or incorporated entities.
Public law includes matters such as taxes and criminal law
Private law includes civil law – for our purposes that covers contract law, law of torts, employment law and company law.
Is that ok for you?
Yes that certainly clears up a lot. Thank you sir
You’re very welcome
