    Hey Mike,
    How are You Doing?

I just got here after completing my Applied Knowledge exams from OT & I’m Planning to Do Law as my First Exam from the Applied Skills Stage with the Help of Open Tuition. πŸ™‚

However, I do have a Question about the 2 Variants on this Exam, I’m trying to make a Firm decision on which Variant I should go with.

Could you please be kind enough to explain the major difference between the 2?

I also wish to immigrate to the United States One day, With This in mind which variant do you think would be the most appropriate pick.

    Thank You! πŸ™‚

Hi Thenuka and congratulations on passing the Applied Knowledge stage on your journey to qualifying.

And welcome too to the exciting and fun world of the ACCA Law knowledge requirements.

First an apology for the slow response – we were without electricity for much of the day yesterday and I was frustratingly unable to access the website (nor make a cup of coffee!)

Both variants are equally difficult and there is a reasonable (50%?) degree of overlap in the two syllabi.

The main (probably) reason for choosing English variant is because you have aspirations to move to the UK after you have qualified and intend applying for a practising certificate. In that situation you should have successfully overcome the English Law variant and the UK Tax variant.

If your aspirations do not include the UK, then probably the more-internationally focussed Global variant would be appropriate.

You mention a potential move to USA. My recollection (and it may no longer be up-to-date and relevant!) is that USA does not recognise ACCA (nor ICAEW) qualifications and I believe that you would need to re-qualify over there should you wish to practice. It’s almost certain that you would need to take law and tax papers but there could be even more to it than that!

    Has that helped?

Thenuka, I’ve just asked AI the question ‘Does USA recognise ACCA qualification?

    This is the response:

    “Does USA recognise ACCA qualification?

The USA recognizes the ACCA qualification. ACCA seeks to enhance the education recognition of its qualification on both national and international education frameworks, and with educational authorities and partners globally. The ACCA qualification is currently recognized on the education frameworks in several countries, including the USA. However, it is always recommended to refer to the national education framework regulator for further information regarding the recognition of ACCA qualification in specific countries.”

This may be even more help than my first effort πŸ™‚

Did I respond to your question about the differences in the two variants? The English variant has a lot greater depth into contract law, employment law, partnership law and agency

The Global variant looks at greater depth into UN law and particularly into the UN law relating to the International trading of goods

There are other variations but I believe that these above points are the essential differences

    OK?

    Greetings Mike,

Thank you for the Ample amount of information you have provided regarding both variants.
And I’m really grateful for you going the extra mile taking your time to explain the recognition of ACCA in the States.

Based on your analysis, I believe that the Global Variant matches my personal interests in Geo Politics.?

On that account & having done a bit of my own research, I have decided that the Global Variant may be my preferred option.

Once again Thank You for your comprehensive clarification. πŸ™‚

Excited to See You in Class Soon! ?

    Yeah! You’re welcome

On a personal note, I find the English Law variant a LOT more FUN!

However, hopefully you’ll enjoy the Global variant too

Should you ever find yourself hitting a (virtual) brick wall in understanding, do please post again and I’ll get back to you asap (electricity supply willing!)
