When can we use “lock in rate”? I only know how to calcuate,
Unless you are told either the spot rate or the futures price on the date of the transaction (and in most exam questions you are not told either) then you have no choice but to use the lock-in rate. It gives the net effect of converting the transaction at spot together with the gain or loss on the futures deal.
