    Hi sir,

could please advise how to calculate ISO contribution. (can we assume and give an number (6400) draw the ISO contribution) 9x+8y = 6400

I was practicing few past paper questions ( eg – The cosmetic Co question), I’m always selecting the wrong constrain to calculate the optimum solution point. If there are more than 3constraints its very difficult to identify the correct solution lies. please advise

yes, for iso contribution you have to take a dummy number and solve it, and draw the iso contribution line.

Fathmath: This is the Ask the Tutor forum – please do not answer here. Restrict yourself to answering questions in the general F5 forum.

    Maas:

Yes – choose any number for the contribution and draw the line. Whatever number you choose, the line will be parallel and it is only the angle of the line that is relevant when checking to see which corner is the best.

In the exam, it should be fairly clear when using the iso-contribution line as to which is the furthest corner away (and therefore the best). However, if you really cannot decide (because two corners are very close) then you could check at both of the corners and whichever gives the biggest contribution is the best.

However, don’t worry too much. The marks are for knowing the steps to take and labelling the graph properly etc.. Getting the correct answer does not actually carry many marks – if it is clear you know what you are doing then you will easily get pass marks even if you have ended up picking the wrong corner. Have a look at the marking scheme at the end of past exams and you will see what I mean.
