June 1, 2011 at 3:08 pm #82637Law is a general term to describe the rules and principles that any organised society accept as necessary. Legal is the adjective which describes something enshrined in law. Legislation is the written element of these enshrined principles
Jurisdiction is the expression to describe the extent of authority of elected / appointed bodies to administer the law. regulation is a rule which is not law, so therefore has fewer teeth than law. However, it can be enforced by responsible bodies ( like the ACCA ) where some ACCA member breaches a regulation.
A rule is something you came across at junior school – do you remember that it was a school rule that you “Should not run in the corridors”
An Act is the name given to a piece of statute – like the Companies Act 2006. It’s the final form of a piece of legislation. But why on this Earth are you so concerned about the precision of the meaning of these words – there’s so much else to know and which has a SUBSTANTIALLY GREATER chance of being asked next week!!!!
