A company has started production of a new product and has found that the first 10 units of production took 120 hours. The next 30 units produced took a further 150 hours.
What was the learning rate?
A. 75.00%
B. 56.25%
C. 66.70%
D. 80.00%
The answer is 75. But how? I use table approach and still dont get the answer
Think of them as being an batches of 10.
The first batch (i.e. 10 units) took 120 hours.
The first 4 batches (i.e. a total of 40 units) took 120 + 150 = 270 units, which is an average of 270/4 = 67.5 hours per unit.
4 batches is doubling twice, and so the learning rate is the square root of 67.5/120 = 0.75 (or 75%)
