    Can some one tell me how they got the answer for the question below:

    The times taken to produce each of the first four batches of a new product were as follows:

    Batch 1 = 100 minutes
    Batch 2 = 70 minutes
    Batch 3 = 59 minutes
    Batch 4 = 55 minutes

    What was the rate of learning closest to?

    The answer at the back is 84.3%. According to my answer i’m getting 85%……..

    Can you please explain how they got 84.3%?

    The average time per batch if we make 4 is (100+70+59+55)/4 = 71 minutes

    If the learning rate is r,
    then the average time per batch for 2 batches is 100 x r

    The average time per batch for 4 batches is 100 x r^2
    (using the doubling rule).

    Therefore 100 x r^2 = 71
    r^2 = 0.71
    r = 0.843 (or 84.3%)
