discuss the reservations with learning effect. what does the statement mean ?
I guess following statements
1. It assumes stable conditions at work which will enable learning to take place
2. It assumes a certain degree of motivation amongst employees
3. Breaks between repeating production of an item must not be too long, or workers will “forget” and learning process will have to begin all over again
4. It might be difficult to obtain accurate data to decide what the learning curve is
and so on
Most important is the first point of nataly1986’s
In practice it is unlikely that the same workers remain all the time. If some workers leave and new people join, then for them the learning has to start all over again!
Also, although in theory learning goes on for ever, there will come a point when they workers are working as fast as they can and the time per unit becomes constant. The problem is how we decide how many units we need to make before the learning stops. (There is no answer to this – if there are calculations in the exam then you are told when the learning stops.)
