    Hi All πŸ™‚

I was looking into the F5 Specimen paper Q5, but i’m not sure on how to calculate the limiting factor at -0.415. – is this entered via a scientific calculator- if so which icon??

A run through on this question would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance πŸ™‚

    Hi Anny

The 75% learning rate is simply given to you in decimal form (i.e. Log0.75/Log2) = -0.415. Not sure where you’ve got a limiting factor query from either – this is a straightforward learning curve query.

    Total time for first 6 jobs is 5hrs x 6(-0.415) = average 2.377 hours per unit x 6 units = 14.26 hours.
    Total time for first 5 jobs is 5hrs x 5(-0.415) = 2.563 hours average per unit x 5 units – 12.82 hours.

14.26 hours less 12.82 hours = 1.44 hours (so option B is correct answer).

You really need to get your head around the learning curve and how a decimal answer is ascertained by using the Log @ learning rate as a decimal/Log 2. This is a fundamental basic which seems to appear on most F5 papers and an educated guess says it will appear as a short form MCQ or as part of a longer scenario question in Dec 14.

John Moffat has provided an excellent lecture on the rate of learning and also runs through the process of how to calculate on a scientific calculator. We worth watching and making sure you can answer all learning rate questions etc prior to stepping into the exam hall.

Hope the above is useful for some further direction for you.

    Kind Regards

    Chris

Thank you very much Chris this is very helpful.
I am retaking F5 so rather than go over my notes I attempted at answering questions to see where I’m struggling at. But this is definitely an area I’ll look into further.

    ok anny.

In answer to your other query – the 20 x 2 mark questions are the MCQ’s you’re seeing in your new BPP revision kit.

    Hi guys

Struggling with the log 2 ..

If I have 90% learning rate..

    I’ve typed : log 0.9 / log it gives me 0.475632

This doesn’t look right coz in sure it’s supposed to be a negative number

    Any ideas ?

Hey there I had the same problem, but managed to work it out thanks to Google.

    Try this it should work

    Log (0.90)Γ·log (2) = -0.152

Let me know if this works for you, remember you have to close the bracket after 0.90, I think you’ll find that is where you were going wrong.

Hi there. Does any one know how to calculate the learning rate %? Seen a few section a and b sections asking you to actually calculate the learning rate % but i’m not sure how to calculate this. Can any one help? (hopefully this makes sense)

If you watch my free lectures on learning curves, I explain how to calculate the learning ratio.
The lectures are a complete free course for Paper PM and cover everything needed to be able to pass the exam well.
