Hi,
I have booked in to do the tuition courses at Kaplan- so i will get given Kaplan text books. I have not used Kaplan before- anyone know how it differs to BPP? ANy preferences?
Also – i keep seeing books on the Kaplan website for June and December 2011- does the sybllabus change from June 2011???
Thanks
September 8, 2010 at 1:28 am #67769Hello,
It is generally considered that Kaplan text books are better to use for numerical papers , because they are more compact (text is less detailed) , they contain many practice examples that are similar to those that might appear at the real exam etc.
And Bpp books are more detailed. Texts are so huge that sometimes they are even excessive. That makes them suitable for theoretical papers.
I discovered for myself, that it’s better to use both of them. However, it’s up to anyone.
As for Syllabus change. Yes , for most ACCA papers, there will be singificient change in syllabus starting from June 2011 session.
you can read about it here :
https://www.accaglobal.com/pubs/students/publications/student_accountant/archive/sa_june10_ACCAQual2011.pdfand you can find new syllabuses at the ACCA website.
Good luck,

Hi,
yes, you get the books with your Kaplan course, with the tuition class you should get a text book, a file with course notes (an abbreviated text) and a link for an en-gage version of the full text online. With the revision class you get the exam kit and pocket notes and some online en-gage material.
I have used both Bpp and Kaplan, Kaplan wins hands down, I would not use Bpp classes again, gave me nightmares. Kaplan was much more relaxed and made it seem more achievable (P2 and P6).
Yes, as answered by Ansi the syllabus does change next June.
Hope it helps
September 9, 2011 at 12:24 am #67771kaplan is best for numerical papers like f2…. BPP is better for theory papers. even for theory paper you can cover entire syllabus using kaplan faster. BPP explains classic way ,classic presentation but excessive and time consuming.
February 24, 2012 at 12:11 pm #67772According to my experience Kaplan text books and kits are best for (f2,f3,f6,f7,f8,f9).kaplan text book is also very well written for theoretical paper like f8.
February 27, 2012 at 6:24 pm #67773I can’t decide which books to buy for F8, I used kaplan for f4, which was a theory paper and did not enjoy reading it, because the layout was very poor but the notes were okay to understand.
I know f8 is also a theory paper, and am now considering lsbf, how would you rate the lsbf books compared to kaplan?February 29, 2012 at 2:06 pm #67774So far (other than F6) I have used a mixture of Kaplan and Opentuition lectures. The notes and exersises seem to compliment each other, and subsequently I have continued with the same combination.
I used BPP for F6 in December 2011 as I had a friend who had passed it earlier in June, but can agree I found the text very detailed and in some areas excessive. That said, BPP did have some good revision questions.March 13, 2012 at 10:34 am #67775AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

I would recommend Get Through Guides (GTG) books. Very simple and easy to understand and their Question Banks had an uncanny (suspicious?) ability to predict exam questions for my papers (F7, F5, F9)
I have used BPP and Kaplan previously and found both of their Study Texts to be similar and many times, over-complex and confusing. I prefered the Kaplan questions to BPP but again not a huge amount in it.
March 13, 2012 at 11:19 am #67776i did gtg f3 revision kit.. it is better than both kaplan and BPP. it is true. for f7 i will buy. kaplan is my fav study text. i have to try GTG study text and see how good it is.
March 14, 2012 at 2:06 pm #67778i used gtg notebook for P1 and i didnt enjoy it at all. too elaborative like bpp, difficult to see the key points and lots of grammatical errors as well. i personally prefer kaplan notes. but gtg pocket notes always seems interesting with lots of pictures/diagram to help you memorise.
