    Hi Guys,

I completed university in December 2016 but due to unavoidable circumstances with my university, I was only able to graduate in July 2017. I knew after uni that I wanted to pursue ACCA but I refrained from registering earlier this year because I had hopes that I would receive some exemptions. Unfortunately after applying I’ve learned that I only got one exemption (F1) which is heartbreaking because I already spent 3 years in uni and now I’ve learned that I may have to spend another 3 going to classes again. I studied a BCom in Management Studies at the University of Cape Town.

I went for my first class today and I was a little discouraged by the pace, especially given that I have already done Financial Accounting in uni. I felt like I was ahead of the class even though I only studied this course in my first year of uni. I’ve read alot of forums of plenty of people who didn’t actually have tuition classes but rather did self-studying and this has encouraged. I personally would much rather self-study my way through because I believe I can pace along with ACCA requirements. My institution is very limiting in that you have to do only 2 courses every 6 months, which for me means I may spend as long or longer here than in university.

I am basically just asking for anyone’s advice on how I can succeed. Since Feb this year I have been studying with open tuition plus I have the revision kits as well as study texts for my courses so genuinely I feel properly equipped to succeed on my ACCA journey. Is this enough for you to pass? And is it through ACCA global that you apply for exams online? I really don’t believe in waiting a whole six months to write just 2 exams. My ACCA application is still being processed but I feel like as soon as it’s finalized I will stop going for classes and just self-study.

Anyone have any advice? Much Appreciated

Hi, my 2 cents: you don’t need anything else other than OpenTuition and an up-to-date revision kit to be able to pass your Acca exams.
I started in December 2015 with only 1 exemption (F1) and completed in December 2017. Only used OpenTuition material, revision kits, Acca technical articles. Never purchased a study text, except for P6, for which OT does not offer any support.
    I hope this helps.
