In my opinion, stage 3 exams should be more like what happens in real life..a business analyst wont be given 1 hr for that lengthy case….probably like 1 week!!..there shd be no ambiguities at this stage..

Exactly!… what do they expect? that a client comes to me with a business problem.. and I give him consultancy with strategy for the next 10 years? this is ridiculous.. how you can possibly attend all these questions in 3 hours? this is absolutely unfair to know all the topics and to fail… so.. is it ethical? πŸ™‚

Did anyone think to use Porters 5 forces for 2a? Thinking about it now, it makes sense as the question made specific points related to barriers of entry / supplier power/ rivalry….?
    What do you think?

paper had lots of information and when i saw the first question i felt like someone please pinch me…. he he… wrote PESTEL the a of question 1 and also mendelow’s analysis, in question b i said that problems were substantial backlog not processed, only one week for renewal payment and than the customer would be lapsed and even the repayment cheque had to go through whole the process again even if it was wrong dated, question 2 used the same ratios which were given but non financial factors like hardworking, ethical people, no rivalry in 19 out of 20 region of Ecuria, good infrastructure, privatisation, low tax rate (out of 1200 pbt only 50 was deducted as tax, just 4%), unmatured market….. and in 2b i used porter’s diamond same points but just differant grouping… then did que 4 perf. appraisal was horrible, manager went to pick up children, so funny, uncontroled mesures for appraisal and many other probs, didnt knew a lot about competecy framework but wrole general sense and how to use it in national college and IMF… long paper, i hope to get 50…

I did 1,2,3… I took 25min to read the case in q1 used PESTEL, SWOT, Mendlow and just talk about mission. It was to much for part a. Q2 was ok but to much to do that time was running out as I only had an hour to do the option que. For the first time in all my acca exams I used a whole booklet but still feel i did not go into details as the time was running out….hoping for a 50 it all I need to finish. Dont want to see P3 again wrote it to many time….. Exams over to just have fun now ppl.

    I did 1,2,4
Q1 I used PESTEL and SWOT to analyse the enviroment; Strategic capability which consists of resource and competancy can be analysed by applying resourse-based theory;and followed by Mendelow model for Stakeholder and pyramid model for mission.
I spent more than an hour to finishe the Q1(a), feeling almost died when sitting in the exam room…
Anyway, the whole exam is a disaster to me~

    hi all,

i absolutely agree that the whole paper was too lengthy..it took me 25 minutes for reading and understanding question 1…

i beleive p3 exam every time gets worst..
i do not understand why the examiner is doing that…

it’s the 4th time i have attended this paper and i know that there will be more!! πŸ™

I agree that the reading was much too lengthy. The fifteen minutes reading time was certainly not enough for question 1. Three- four pages of reading plus the flowchart Waaaaayyyyy!!! I did nos. 1,2 ,3. I used PESTEL and SWOT also mention a little critical success factors in there somewhere. Wish all the best!
Let’s look forward to the next paper in Dec 2010!!!!!

Do not agree on use of Ansoff in Q2(a) – question asked for non-financial measures/indicators – fit, culute , company in a mature/competitive mrkt acquiring an ex-state run company , synergy (or lack of).
Ashridge is about a parent acquiring a company which fits into its portfolio – but there was more required?
    What do you think?

I agree with you all!! It was very lengthy exam and very time pressured.. I spent too much time on Q1 (what a scneario????!!!!!)and the requirements were not streightforward. I used PESTER, Menderlow’s matris and S&W.
I was so well prepared – I would say better than ever! Due to the time pressure I was not able to formulate my answers well. I hope to pass πŸ™

I must admit with every one here on the forum who wrote the P3 paper. The scenario for Que. 1 was way to lengthy. i think it was a real torture. We do dont expect exams to be easy at this level ,but at the same time, we expect justice to be served for all the time, money and effort we put into that paper. The questions was asking for so many things. We knew what we had to do , but because of the lengthy requirements and scenario in question 1 many of us got stuck. I did not even get to do que1 a which was worth 21 marks. i only started writing about Pestel (two lines only when the examiner said time up) what a disaster. It is so hard when you study hard, know your stuff, but did not get enough time to answer properly. The exam itself was not really difficult , but the paper was to time pressured. ACCA needs to know that every body cannot work at the same pace. They should also take into consideration that we are dealing with people whose first language is not english, which mean it will take them a lot longer to undrestand and formulate their answers.

    HI EVERYONE,

I ALSO AGREE THAT THE EXAM WAS VERY LENGTHY AND TOOK THE MOST TIME ON Q1.

ACCA HAS A SURVEY ASKING FOR FEEDBACK ABOUT THE EXAMS, PLEASE I ENCOURAGE YOU TO FILL IT OUT. IT WILL ONLY TAKE 10MINS.
THEY USE THE SURVEY COMMENTS IN THE REVIEW AND MARKING PROCESS….BUT YOU ONLY HAVE 4WEEKS TO DO IT, SO PLEASE DO IT NOW.

IF ALOT OF PEOPLE MAKE THEIR COMMENTS ABOUT THE LENGTH OF THE CASES KNOWN, THEY MAY GO EASY ON US WHEN THEY ARE MARKING…..

    SO PLEASE FILL IT OUT!!!!

    THANKS…..PASS THIS INFO ON……

Question 1 scenario is too lenghty!

And only 20 marks was awarded for an analysis in external env, internal env, stakeholders and mission stat? I felt that this was too demanding… Normally an analysis on external environment plus internal capability should have already earned atleast 15 marks.
