I used PESTEL and SWOT for the first one. The question asked to evaluate environment and strategic position as well as stakeholders and organization mission if I remember it right. I think the quality of your answer is important not the model used.
I have ran out of time at the end. I think questions were very long and detailed, and I probably spent too much time on reading them.
Has anybody passed an ACCA paper even if not all the questions were answered?June 16, 2010 at 1:42 pm #64427I am surprised nobody here mentioned that the exam was unfairly lenghty…..i am surprised and very disappointed in the examiner….hwo could i ever pass this exam. This was the first time but damn,,,,
June 16, 2010 at 1:47 pm #64428I DID q 1 ,2, 3 as well. i hope i will get a pass. i hate this paper. this paper tooks longer than all that 13 papers. all first time pass except this examiner’s paper. woops!!
QI (A) i used pestel anaylsis , but i think the question has been asking more than a pestel , i also did stakeholder analysis and a bit S and W.
QI (:) I AM NOT SURE WHAT IS THE PROBLEM FOR TH E PROCESS
q (c)i used value chainJune 16, 2010 at 1:52 pm #64429it is ture the exam is length. i spent lots of time reading first question. and i run of time in the end. when there only 1 hour left i still have 2 options unfinished. so i have about 15 marks left unanswed. this is the worst examiner ever.

Has anybody passed an ACCA paper even if not all the questions were answered?Yh i passed F7 and missed out the cashflow question (q3 i think)!
I agree that the exam was really long, the texts where far too lengthy too read in the first 15 minutes!
Lets hope they take this into consideration when they mark it!

Very Time pressured.
Used PESTEL for Q1 and did some extra S and W at the end.
Was no point doing O and T because question specifically said current strategy before she looks at the futureJune 16, 2010 at 2:06 pm #64432AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Agreed, the Q1 is too long, I spent almost half an hour to read the question, this caused me left only an hour for finishing next 2 questions.

Yes – questions were too long & too much time spent reading & coming to grips with the scenario. I did complete Q1, 2 & 4 but don’t feel I got everything down that I wanted to. Also, not as much direction as I had hoped – apart from Q1 where told to use Porter’s competitive forces we were left to make our own choice of model – using up more valuable time.
June 16, 2010 at 2:17 pm #64434Hi All
I also did Q1, 2 & 3
for Q1 I did it as a pestel, mendlow for the stakeholders expalined how I had rated 3 stakeholders, talked about core skills and then 2 paragraphs on what should be in a mission statement (was unsure what they wanted)
Dont think it mattered which models you used, if any, as long as you got the points in as asked you to assess.
Swift one: didnt really do any financial ratios as my mind went blank but talked alot about why it was a good idea, then it was porters diamond, in which I wrote a lot of the same stuff but in a different way
Q3 lots of different points made as forgot it should be SAF so added a line under each point to say if it was SAF and to which group
Didnt really know what to put for part b so bullet points about skills they should have i.e. good commuication, organisation skills, project management, etc
part c CMMI, i reviewed just before when in but couldnt remember name of each step but I described them just.
I was very tight on time, I over ran by 15 mins on Q1 so was playing catch up. My arm feels like it is about the drop off and I had to ask for extra paper.
Defo better than P2 yesterday !!!!
fingers crossed to you all (and to me lol)June 16, 2010 at 2:19 pm #64435AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Thought it was long, really long. The answers required alot of thought before writing..which is pressure in that atmosphere…Hopefully this is considered in the marking.
Q1 I employed PESTEL for environment, Mendelow for stakeholders, BCG for capability and position and Mintzberg for organisation. It was full circle assessment, analysis, choice and implementation….
Q2 This was fair enough, employed Ratios to beat the band, ASHBRIDGE and ANSOFF (small bit) for aqcuisition decision.
Porters Diamond wasnt too bad either
Q3, CMMI was fine, the outsourcing problem I literally wrote common sense in all honesty…Bus analyst the same. Alot of it driven from the article on Knowledge management
I did the 25 markers first then 50 marker q1…nearly killed me though…had an hour for Q1…..
Anyone know how harshly this paper is marked?
June 16, 2010 at 2:22 pm #64436question 1 esp was realllly too long..how is one expected to make that in 1 hr?..also the question 2 b was a bit ambiguos cause at first i didnt understand whether they meant donations were not coming or that membership dues were not being paid…..was it just me?..i think i shd fill this in the ACCA SITE….For exam feedback…
June 16, 2010 at 2:23 pm #64437hi: what about q1 part b and c ?

hi
Q1 i used PEST. In part B (for the solution of problems) i used 6 sigma.
Q2 i used suitabilty. feasabilty (6 m’s) and acceptabilty (ratios).Did anyone apply any other models.
June 16, 2010 at 2:24 pm #64439I agree with mrst. It is impossible to express your knowledge in such a short time. Only reading scenarios takes incredibly huge amount of time. I was well prepared for this exam.. however due to time pressure I wrote things very quickly, not having time to think properly, and im afraid my answers will be too general to pass…
I really wonder how this is supposed to examine your knowledge…June 16, 2010 at 2:25 pm #64440AnonymousInactive- Topics: 0

Also did Q1,2 & 3 – just realised after paper was taken in that I never ticked on the front of the answer sheet which questions I answered… added stress I didn’t need! Has anyone had the same experience in a previous exam? Was all the questions marked?
Also ran about 20 mins over on Q1, then Q2 took another 50 mins, so only had 20 mins left for Q3… The worst exam I’ve written to date!!
June 16, 2010 at 2:31 pm #64442kirst01 don´t worry. Happened the same to my collegue in the December session. It doesnt matter that you didnt tick the questions you attempted on the first page, the questions you did will be marked anyway.
