Greetings,
What is the difference between JIT and TQM ?
I find it hard to understand the real differences between them. Please elaborate generously.November 22, 2021 at 3:14 pm #641327JIT refers just to inventories and is the idea of keeping inventories as low as possible (in an ideal world no inventory at all). This obviously saves on storage costs, but also forces the company to work better in that (for example) they must avoid damaging raw materials because if they did it would delay production which they waited for more raw materials to arrive (given they cannot just get replacements from inventory).
TQM is attempting to ensure good quality – not just in the sense of producing high quality products for the consumer, but having quality working (so no mistakes, delays, damage during production).
The connect between the two is that in order to operate a JIT system they need to have quality working (as written in the first paragraph) and having TQM policies throughout the business means they are more able to operate a JIT policy.

I just didnt understand the following. Or was it because of some typo ?
“they must avoid damaging raw materials because if they did it would delay production WHICH they waited FOR MORE raw materials to arrive. (given they cannot just get replacements from inventory).”
November 24, 2021 at 4:08 pm #641487Sorry – it was autocorrect!!
What it should have read is as follows:
they must avoid damaging raw materials because if they did it would delay production WHILE they waited FOR MORE raw materials to arrive (given they cannot just get replacements from inventory)
