I know open tuition team would give a reply to this for sure. However I would like to share my experience here, which may be of some help to you.

In my opinion the course notes provided by open tuition is comprehensive and adequately covered the syllabus of each paper from skill level to professional level. However The video lectures are not exactly in line with the course notes, I mean not all the chapters of most papers you may be able to find in a lecture format. I think the video lectures provided selectively and you may find an abrupt end on many video lectures. Nevertheless these lectures are highly useful and supportive as you progresses with your studies. It is always advisable to buy a study text from an ACCA approved publisher and then extensively use open tuition materials for supporting your studies, if you are intending self study. If you are studying through a tuition provider then they would guide you how to go about it, while study materials from this site is available for you to refer 24X7.

My method of study has been to buy a study text (Kaplan) and read and work through the text, while listening to open tuition lectures along the way. I refer the course notes of open tuition only when it has a reference in the video lectures.

To sum up, I believe, open tuition study materials are probably adequate to pass ACCA exams.

Our objective is to allow people who cannot go on traditional courses (because of either their location or because of the cost) to have the benefit of courses here, free of charge.

Just like traditional courses, we do not claim to lecture very single thing in the syllabus. In addition (just like traditional courses) we leave some chapters of the Course Notes for you to read yourselves.

In an ideal world you will also get a Study Text from one of the publishers (just as you would on a traditional course) and read every page 🙂

Realistically, for most people that is not possible because of time pressures due to work etc..

So…..our lectures and Course Notes together contain enough to pass the exam well. If you want to get 100% then you do need a Study Text, but there is enough in our material to pass well. You will see from comments on here, that over the five years that we have existed, many many people have passed their exams using just our materials.

BUT…….the one extra thing you must do is practice questions. At the very least you must work through all the past exam questions (which are on the ACCA website). Better, if possible, is to obtain a Revision/Exam Kit from one of the approved publishers – they contain not just all the past exam questions, but also many extra questions to practice.

Thank you Mr. Mofatt. I have just started my ACCA studies and I was wondering if the notes from Opentuition was sufficient to pass the AA exam. I work full time and I have a limited amount of hours to study, hence the notes provided by Opentuition would be of great help in me being successful in the exam.

They are sufficient provided that you also watch the free lectures that go with the lecture notes, and that you also buy a Revision Kit from one of the ACCA approved publishers (because practice at exam standard questions is vital to passing the exam.

For more, please ask in the Paper AA Ask the Tutor Forum and our AA tutor will be able to advise further.
