Is it really pervasive?

If two matters when taken together change the profit figure to a great extent,does it mean that its pervasive and a disclaimer is appropriate?
I saw such treatment in the june 2013 examiners answer

Well, yes! Profit is probably the one figure that most investors (particularly the “small” investor) can understand. And material errors that would change that base figure to a great extent must surely be pervasive
