As title says, do you just have to memorize the textbooks and write an exam? or is it just a guideline and is applied through common-sense?
No, a lot of it is application of knowledge and skills to situations.Hence, the reason the tutors and a number of others on the site stress the importance of exam practice.
Memorizing alone you may pass F1 and F4. But all of the others you would not even score 20% on the papers
