Hi, I’m wondering if anyone has advice on sitting exams at an international exam centre. I’m from the UK but currently on a secondment to the US (Houston) which is where I’ll be for the December 14 exams. I’ve emailed support at ACCA for advice on the location of exam centres in the local area and estimated fees because my manager needs to write it in the forecast for this year. However, they won’t give me any answers. I understand they don’t know where the exam centre will be until they have exact numbers, but I’m afraid I could end up having to travel hundreds of miles just to sit my exams. Also can anyone give me a rough guide as to how much they paid to the exam centre in addition to the exam fees please? Any advice or experience you can share would be great. Thanks

    hi,
I think you can sit anywhere in the world, only problem is whether you can access to that place, as far as exam fee is concern you can calculate by your self by using dollar pound exchange rate.

I have sat last 2 sittings in a special centre. I am in Spain, and we don’t have normal centres. I asked for place in my city and luckily got the centre just 1km from my work. In addition of the normal exam fee, the admin fee is around 55€, and then I have to pay invigilation which is 35-40€/hr, depending if it’s bank hol in here or not (Spain is always on bh, so have happened in both sittings 😀 )

I don’t know if this helps you much. I have the imagination that each special centre bill what they want. You are in US, so your rates can be something totally different than mine.

Thanks Bangarraju2002, you’re right, I can use the exchange rate for the exam fees but they charge additional fees that they don’t disclose if you opt to sit your exam at one of their special exams centres – which I need to take the exam in Houston. I’ve just been told by the ACCA that they cannot guarantee that I can sit my exams in Houston as it depends on the number of students taking the same papers as me in the area. So it looks like you can sit them anywhere in the world, but you just don’t know where it will be!

Ninska, thank you for sharing that info on the costs – I understand it could vary here but it’s good to get an idea of how much is charged elsewhere just to get an idea of how much it could be. Also, I’m sorry you had to spend your bank holidays sitting exams – I hope you had a good rest afterwards! 🙂

    Hello Claire,

I know this is awhile, but were you ever able to write your exam in Houston? Do you remember the costs outside of the exam fee? I am now living in Houston and due to COVID as well I am unable to travel to other locations and would like to sit exam here. Any help would be highly appreciated.
