Should I do INT or UK variant? What is the difference in syllabus and preparation? What is your advice and suggestion?
July 2, 2013 at 10:47 pm #133474Do the International version.
They are the same syllabus except the UK version can have up to 10% of the questions replaced by questions about UK GAAP. So the UK syllabus is bigger.
I used BPP books and even though I had the UK study text, it did not include the extra GAAP info so I threw 10% of my marks away in the exam. I was not impressed as I didn’t realise the UK book didn’t include the whole UK syllabus. I also used the BPP UK version revision kit and all the questions are based on the International past papers.
I’m a self studier so just didn’t realise the differences, the only clue was 2 lines in the intro of the study text which tells you you need to download an extra 40 pages from the Internet to cover the extra UK bits (my fault I missed it).
In my exam (Birmingham), there were very few of us sitting the UK version compared to those sitting the International version.
I’d only do the UK version if you have to (for example you have to do the UK Audit paper if you want to be an auditor).
July 3, 2013 at 9:10 pm #133499Hey,
Thanks for your input. So, what I am gathering from your reply and other sources/forums that INT is a wise option, hopefully! I am not sure if I want to be an auditor in the UK!Which paper did you take with F6? I need some suggestions to choose the paper combinations too.
Thanks.
July 4, 2013 at 1:21 am #133501I did F6 on its own as I only had a few weeks to revise it after finishing F2 and 3 CBE’s. I then did F4, 7 and 8 together, and am doing 5 and 9 together in Dec.
July 4, 2013 at 7:33 pm #133514What do you recommend with F6 after your experience of studying all these papers? Do you think 3 papers are doable along with full time work?
July 4, 2013 at 9:07 pm #133515I’ve been on maternity leave so depending on your opinion, that might be equivalent to studying whilst working full time!
But I’m the kind of person who studies the whole syllabus in depth, and does every single past exam question so I do put lots of work in. I know plenty of people who do far less and are just happy to pass, but I like high marks. I go back to work soon so will probably only do 2 exams in December, I think 3 will be pushing it with a full time job and a young family, but like I say, some people would say I put too much work into each exam.To be honest, I think all the subjects I’ve done so far are fairly self contained. There are little bits off overlap but not enough to make me say do X and Y together. I can’t think of any overlap between F6 and any of the other subjects.
Perhaps try to mix theory papers with calculation papers to get some variety.
July 4, 2013 at 10:18 pm #133522Thanks so much ever. Good luck with your exam preparation, job and family!
July 29, 2013 at 5:08 pm #134418I would just add a word of caution. If you want to be an auditor in the UK you need to pass all the UK variants. As a student you don’t know for sure what you’ll end up doing in the future , so why restrict yourself? I don’t see any advantage to the INT variant except that it’s a tiny bit shorter. But doing the right variant for you the first time is by far quicker than having to retake for a different variant.
