@halbesri said:I failed by 46 ,Alex Watt did his job I realy believe 50 was not to much for me as per the discussions on this same site after the exam I never failed before.I want admin review but do not have 50 pounds the rate of which is 28 in my country
@halbesri,never go for admin review because it only checks whether the marks are correctly counted, but will not remark the paper. The margin of error is very low since it’s done by computers, every page of the exam script would be scanned, and marks are checked independently 9 times.
The exam review is for honest students who for example did not come to the exam hall and yet received a mark, or a student who was given an absent mark despite being present in the hall.
You will just be merely donating to ACCA and they will be happy to take your money away.
Please read: https://opentuition.com/acca/acca-administrative-review/
I had a senior who got 49, paid for exam review, and did not see his mark changed at all. He was clearly upset – he could have used the money for the exam review – to pay for his next exam sitting. Putting the mistake aside, he studied much more harder, and returned with 61.

Quote:sunflower-qcStay positive- you’ll get there in the end, you’ve come this far so you definitely have what it takes, my first time round I used BPP attended lectures revision kit, question day – the whole 9 yards, I was so surprised when I didnt make it in December.
This time around, I only had some online lectures, but what i did differently was pay attention the hints from OT and BPP websites, I also read up on all the articles highlighted by the tutors e.g the articles on performance prism and bench-markingIn addition I devoted most of the week before the exams to past questions- and I ended up with 52, no prizewinner, but a pass is a pass.
I really hope you pass next time round, I know what its like being a Mum sitting exams, it’ll be worth it in the end though, just think how proud your little one will be of you 🙂

August 9, 2012 at 9:43 pm #103557At long last pass p5 with 54% and now an affiliate, thank you all especially opentuition for your free support
August 9, 2012 at 11:50 pm #103558Can anyone please advise whether i should get the Kaplan or BPP textbook for P5?
Thanks!August 10, 2012 at 3:54 am #103559@peilin, either text book is ok, I used BPP. Just need the discipline to read the entire text book (ironically every page is significant to increase your chances of passing), and also attempting the questions at the back of the Study Text.
Additionally, you may like to supplement your text book with a set of PYQ dating back from 2003. The Revision Kits only contain a limited number of PYQ, so it helps less in expanding your knowledge. The ACCA website has removed those dating back from 2006 unfortunately, so I got it from my lecturer. But most importantly, don’t forget to adapt your answering style from the old Shane Johnson era to the new Alex Watt era.

Failed 2 times in a row with 45 and 44, respectively. Never had this problem before. Passed P7 on my first attempt. Do you guys think I should go for another paper this time? I am really sick of P5, I know the theory pretty well but I am discouraged and not sure I am gonna be able to make it 🙁
August 13, 2012 at 4:37 pm #103569@stoyanonivan, well you have the most intimate knowledge of P5 so I advised don’t give up. You may know the theory, but you need to be more creative and open minded when it comes to application. Merely repeating older PYQ and expecting the same questions to come out is impossible, because we learn to memorize (which should be discouraged) but we should have learned to understand.
Attempting another new subject would give you a harder time because you have to completely refresh your learning curve. Don’t forget using SWOT on yourself – if you have a weakness, convert it into your strength.
Have you checked out the Examiner’s Report for June 2012 sitting yet? Alex Watt noted that students commented about the performance of the company, not the performance report. They know how to calculate trends but they don’t know how to give a critical analytic reasoning on why trends behave in such manner. In the later questions, have you made sure you perfectly understood the requirements of the questions? (ie. Q3 part (a) only asks on Six Sigma model, and part (b) finally gets you started to apply the model.)

i had a surprising 62 and finally an affiliate. what i noticed about p5 is that student tends to concentrate so much on calculations and do little explanation or interpreting calculations.. i failed p5 last diet but after going through the examiners system of answering questions i passed this diet.

Failed 3 attempts – 46, 36 and now 48. Done with wishy washy crazy guesswork exams so moving on to P6. I have been on courses with BPP and passed the mock days with 57 and 64 for the first two sittings…
Don’t work in tax, don’t work in practice, don’t and won’t ever need tax as I am a systems accountant, amongst my other skills which are too numerous to list. But as the ACCA – who claim to be at the forefront of just about everything, ha ha – seem to have pigeon holed everyone nicely at the options stage I don’t have any choice. Tax and Audit are fine if you are in practice – I was back in the day. P4 is great if you are good at numbers or work in banking or the finance sector etc. That leaves P5 or P6.
Be warned – don’t be deceived by global pass rates as I think they are manipulated. This is based on the rationale that unlike their claims, ACCA have done very little indeed since the beginning of this year to assist those sitting P level papers. The ACCA examiner and tutors are still way apart in terms of teaching and examining. The odd article does not constitute nor support the 6% increase in the P5 rate. The exam was easier than the Dec 11 sitting, but still very challenging for most. All examiners should be obliged to provide a techinical article every month in SA. They should earn their money – they make students lives hell. The recent comment from the ACCA about pass rates improving due to the things they have put in place is, frankly, disgusting. Numerically correct yes, but they do very little to help.
If you like not having a clue what the examiner wants then this is the exam for you, otherwise I would advise tax for two reasons:
The pass rate is approaching a value I deem acceptable at professional level, although they are all far too low and should be nearer 50%. Whereas P1 2 & 3 should be lower and much harder in order to discriminate properly against those who are not fit to continue with their studies. Options should be easy relative to mandatory exams, not the other way round.
The P6 exam is clear. You either know the answer or you do not.
You will not spend 30% of the P6 exam trying to work out where the examiner is trying to take you. Or as in Dec 11 Q1 P5, not having a clue – who in general business uses probabilities, let alone students actually using it in their day jobs. This happens in P5.
I don’t think P6 will be any easier as it’s been years since I sat F6 and tax is something my boss and the financial accountant deal with. But change is as good as a rest, the pass rates are (allegedly) the best – which is great psychologically – and it’s black and white. It’s not greener, just a different shade!
Passed 3 P papers in Dec 10 and nothing since with just one more to go.
Well done those who passed. My books are in the loft to die peacefully. My P6 study stuff was already with me on 9th July to have a good run at it – decided 2pm 14/06/12 that it was time for a change. 8th August I woke up after a fab nights sleep, checked my mail, smiled and went back to sleep.
To those who have failed – especially the person who has failed 7 times on here, good luck if you are doing it again.
AW knows exactly where he should put his paper lol
Hoepfully the change will get me through.
August 17, 2012 at 3:31 pm #103577@slimboy, good for you to consider a change to P6 since it will add value to your job requirements. In my humble opinion, the technical articles actually helped me do well for Q2 and Q4 in June 2012, but it’s just a matter of how we see it – as supplementary articles to thoroughly understand a model/technique better, or treat it as an exam forecast by itself but not reading it to full understanding.
Good luck for your P6 if you decide to take it, but should you need peaceful closure for your P5, maybe discuss with a tutor or refer to the Examiner’s Report to learn from where you may have done mistakes on. All the best.
