Hello Tutor i hope you are doing good. Can you please help me in the following question.
Q) The following statements have been made about management information and
management information systems.(1) Management information is often produced from transaction processing systems.
(2) The data used in management information systems comes mainly from sources within the organisation and its operations.
Which of the above statements is/are true.
Answer – Both the statements are true.
Tutor i have a doubt in Statement 1.
Isn’t Management Information often produced using Management Information System, rather then T.P.S.Because Kaplan in its study text has mentioned that, an M.I.s provides information to all level of Management. And moreover T.P.S is often used by Operational Managers only.

The MIS then analyses the input by algorithms to aggregate, compare and summarise data for reports for tactical managers.May 6, 2023 at 4:24 am #683969Thankyou for the answer Tutor 🙂
But i also wanted to know whether statement 1, is incorrect.
Because as you mentioned M.I.S provides info to Management and not T.P.S.
T.P.S just provides the input for producing Management InformationMay 6, 2023 at 9:40 am #683976The first statement
The output from a TPS is often used as an input into a MIS
Is the key to the point they are making.
Management information is often produced from transaction processing systems.
The output from TPS is the input for the MISMay 8, 2023 at 8:09 pm #684079Thankyou Tutor 🙂
There is another question relating to this chapter that I’d like to ask.
Question) Information systems described below may or may not be suited to all levels of management.
Identify the suitability of the system (i.e. whether suited to all level of Management or not suited to all levels of management).
“A Management Information System producing management accounts showing margins for individual customers”.
The answer is “Suitable to all Levels of Management”.
But Tutor as you mentioned “The MIS then analyses the input by algorithms to aggregate, compare and summarise data for reports for tactical managers”.
I know your statement is true and that’s what even i have studied. But then why do that kit says it to suitable to all level of Management.
May 8, 2023 at 11:28 pm #684087Management information is an important input for efficient performance of various managerial functions / different levels in an organisation.
An integrated system for providing information to support operations, management and decision making functions in an organisation. This means ALL levels…
It means STO – Operational, Tactical and Strategic
Much of the data will be to tactical, some will be operational and strategic and so on … - AuthorPosts
