I wanted your opinions on whether it is better to start one’s career with the private sector/industry etc. or with an audit firm?
There are pros and cons.
Pros for Industry:
– Likely to be shorter hours, especially when compared to the likes of the Big 4.
– Likely to be better paid, especially compared to small practices. However, salaries for those at the Big 4 will overtake after 2-3 years.
Pros for Practice
– Likely to gain a better variety of experience early in your career.
– Many employers looks favourably on candidates with practice background when recruiting.
– In the UK, you can study the ACA which is seen as more prestigious and is not available to most in industry.
Thanks, Chris. Appreciate it.
