    Hi
    Can anyone recommend a book to read on better studying and how to improve my abilty to remember what I am reading. I do not have good technique at the moment. There are lots of ‘improve your memory’ books out there but they don’t seem to be specific to studying for exams like ACCA.
    Many thanks for your help.

    I always advice making your own notes and learning the material ‘in your own words’ – it is so much easier to understand and remember and then write on the actual exam.

    After that it’s

    Repetition, Practice, Repetition, Practice, Repetition, Practice untill you are totally sick of it.
    Then you pass

    i second the ‘own words’ method

    What i do is create my own sets of notes. I do detailed, them abbreviated, then further abbreviated, to the point its just lists of bullets about each subject. I then go through a Q+A kit, do the questions, but bullet the question and answer, so ‘if this happens, do x,y,z’

    By the time I have got to the exam day, i have read these points over and over, aeven on the way to the exam

    @Gee

    The best way to memorise anything is called the method of loci/memory palace. Look it up and you will be amazed by how easy and effective it is.

    I was taught it by someone whilst @ uni and did most of my exams with about a week/2 worth of studying.

    It is great for things like tax which is rules based/accounting standrads/proformas. You will however get unstuck with this technique when you have application written subjects like auditing which requirwe more learning.

    Just out of interest this is the same technique that uk black cab drivers use to memorise every street, and involves locations and mental imagery.

    Thank you all for the advice, a nice mix of suggestions to think about and look into.
    Many thanks again.
