Sir I failed the APM in Jun’23 attempt at 46 marks mainly I could not attempt the variance analysis question in an appropriate way. I passed PM paper 7 years ago. Therefore, please advice me the topics which I should revise from PM while preparing for APM. I have read the “Stepping Up PM to APM” but it does not advice in detail. Would appreciate if you advice the list of all the relevant topic even sub-topics of PM necessary to revise while attempting APM.

If you read our notes, most PM topics we think important are repeated there (including variance analysis). The only major topic not repeated is contribution analysis (eg break-even, key factor analysis, make or buy) and it is certainly worth looking at that topic in the PM notes.

If you fine that the APM notes mention something that you want more information about, then go back to the PM notes to fill the gaps.

Thank you for your answer. However, APM open tuition notes only provides 1 question on variance analysis and that too limited to making a flexed budget and then compare the variance down to the budgeted and actual profit. Whereas this time APM examiner asked about very basic variance in APM i.e. usage and price and efficiency variance. I missed the point where to take actual and where to take budgeted figures while comparing as this revision was not provided in APM open tuition notes.

As you know, all of the PM syllabus is examinable in APM. Therefore, if you wanr to be completely sage, you should be competent in all of PM.
