Hello everyone.
I have already passed all the ACCA exams, and I’m Affiliate right now.
In all of the exams (F1 – P7). I did it all by self-study, and passed all in first attempt. After I got the certificate of Affiliate completion in last June, I started to work in one of the big company in my country in the Accounting department. After several months I worked, I don’t know why, I really felt very very bored. I’m really sick and fed up with all those Accounting stuffs in my work. I’m really fed up with all of it.
At first, maybe it is because of the company itself, so that I just resign and move to the other company, and enter to the one of the Audit firm and enter into the audit department. After several months again, also again, I’m felt really really bored as well. I’m really fed up with all those accounting stuffs like journals, debit, credit, balance sheet, profit loss, adjustments, and so on. I’m really FED UP to work with all of those stuffs. And at the end, I resigned again.
Now, currently, I move to other company and work in the department that not related to accountancy anymore, it’s more on the IT department. In this case, I felt a little bit relief for not seeing that accounting anymore, and currently I’m still learning all the completely new field of study (IT) in my work, and I’m enjoying it.
However, at this week, there is a new email from ACCA, to Renew the subsciption fee of an Affiliate. Which is around £ 129. That’s a really expensive since my local currency is indeed weak over the GBP. And I have to pay the subsciption fee every year for foreseeable future for the accounting professional degree that not related to my current work now.
My question now is :
1. If you were me, that now work in the field that NOT related to accounting anymore, Is it still worth to pay the subsciption fee to ACCA for many years go on ?
2. Is it wise for myself to Quit the ACCA ? (I have completed all the ACCA exams and become an Affiliate right now, which only take the 3 years working to become a member, However I could not enjoy to work in accounting)All the share of your comments and thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.December 8, 2019 at 12:08 am #555455It might be worth taking your time to think things through more. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t give up ACCA but I can understand your situation. The reason is I know that I worked hard for it and it is an achievement that even though I do not necessarily want to practise, it is a reminder of my hard work. I won’t give it up because I want to be grateful for the opportunity that I have been blessed with and which most people are aiming to achieve.
I am sure you can reinstate when you are ready to go back should you decide to take a break or not to renew your affiliate membership. Read up about the impact on your decision on ACCA website.
Of course, follow your heart, you know which path to take that would make you happy.
Life is too short to be unhappy.
December 8, 2019 at 11:34 am #555475Hi
I am awaiting the results of my exams in December to be an affiliate. I intend to get more accounting experiences for a few more years and then change my career again. A lot of CEO and leaders in an organisation have an accounting qualification so it will stand with you forever so I would not say quit membership but find another area in accounting you may prefer
Have your tried an Finance analysts role, or commercial accounting or pricing role. I currently in this field and you get to interact with procurement, NPD and supply chain to develop prices for the company. It is very interesting
Good luck
