This is the situation with reference to IFRS 9:

“The accounting of financial assets and financial liabilities is accounted for in accordance with IFRS 9 to the extent that this standard was in issue as at 30 September 2012. For any elements of the study guide deemed as examinable and not covered by IFRS9, these elements should be dealt with by studying IAS39.”

    OK?

“to the extent that this standard was in issue as at 30 September 2012” means that any amendments to IFRS 9 since the end of September, 2012 is not examinable and that insofar as a financial instrument question requires it, you’ll need to refer back to IAS 39 if IFRS 9 didn’t cover the matter as at September 2012
