Advice, or support welcome.
I dont work as an accountant,( i started accountg studies to have a carear in the future) i started doing the aat, and continued on to acca. i sit 1 exam a sitting, and skiming through, done up to F6, just failed F5 once. but i feel as i dont work as accoutant, i am struggling alot because of this. I study ALOT, and dont see improvements. doing F7 now, and cant understand concepts. And the higher u go the harder they are. Should i give up, or find a jog in accounting, leave my secure position in Govt. to proceed with a better paid carear in the future. dont know what step to take. anyone in a similar position ??? its gona take me ages to complete the acca, and whithout the 3 yrs experience required. it sux lol
November 13, 2012 at 7:27 pm #107249i am totaly new to accounting. last year i joined ACCA, i found f3 and f7 very hard. if you are willing to work hard no need for expereince. i dont have any exp in accounting. my major was computer and then worked in technical executiove and later as school teacher. never give up. ACCA is very hard. so work hard. you have to practice a lot of questions.
in f7, all qns in revision kit of consolidated statements i have done 4 times. it was so hard.
f5 is easier bcoz i was good in maths and i was teaching maths. so again, if u find it hard, work hard, that is my advice.i found f8 is hardest of all in foundation papers.
do a regular job and study ACCA along with it.
November 13, 2012 at 10:08 pm #107250@fairy,
given up is not a strategy and wont earn you nothing. acca is not cheap, the reason few people cross to the other side.
my advise:
please go get more light on whatever paper you struggle with, by that i mean: adequate and proper guidance. good study kits, adequate study time.i once wrote a paper that earned me 36 marks first sitting and 70+ grade in second sitting done in less than 2 hours. that’s what i mean by getting light. someone knows what it is you do not know, reach out for help.
we’ve all had a fair share of failure in one paper or the other.
please learn to ask questions where you have issues, OT is a perfect place to get good information.
don’t just write exam, be sure you’re up to the game.
hope this help.
Best wishes!

🙂November 15, 2012 at 1:44 pm #107253Hi there fairy.
For F7 – If you work through all of Mikes lectures on here that should be sufficient to at least give you a fighting chance to get through the exam if you follow his standard workings.
It was different for me as I have worked in Accounts for over 15yrs, and subsequently F6, F7 & F8 have been my easiest exams so far.
The problem I am having is F9 – I have studied and studied but it just doesnt seem to stick! 🙁Hang in there – dont quit now that youve got this far.
November 22, 2012 at 7:34 am #107254hey marky, ye thats the problem with F7, my scores are in the 40’s, my brain dosnt learn anymoreee ! soo fustrating.
so i feel im not able to as, i dont have the accounting backgroundNovember 28, 2012 at 5:56 pm #107255Guys keep your heads up. I did it all quickly in a couple of years taking 4 exams at a time, whilst having a busy social life, working full time.
Not because I am smart, i didnt even do an accounting degree and most people will tell u ur job doesnt help with the exams. Just cause I did the study kits and when I had trouble with topics I asked. simple
November 28, 2012 at 7:59 pm #107256Fairy – I am in the same position as you. I dont come from an accounts background and I home study and dont work in accounts at the moment…BUT I am studying my backside off and sitting exams and NOT giving up. We all have wobbly moments of doubt but you cant just give up! If you dont want to be an accountant (or are not very sure) then dont do it – but if your ambition is to be an accountant then you have to push on. Re-look at your study materials and methods if you are having problems.

fairy i am in a smiliar situation as u r!! i worked at mcdonalds as a manager for past many years and decided to build my knowledge by doing ACCA and im struggling at times too.
it can be tought but hard work does pay off!!
December 3, 2012 at 12:20 am #107258Do not despair. I too started out from a position of not working as an accountant, nor did I study accounting in school. Mt first foray into the field was while I was doing my masters in chemistry. I started, at the time with paper 1.1 (F3 now). I just forged ahead, studying and applying the learning and in so doing i got through the exams. It wasn’t until i finished studying that I got a job at an auditing firm. Keep going, you will get through in the end.
