I am a 3rd year Electrical Engineering student who sits for 2 or 3 ACCA exams a year. I am currently doing my F8 in September. (Last exam of Skills). I sat for F5 exam in 2017 Dec and Passed it but I am worried now cause i don’t remember anything at all in that Subject. I means its almost nil. I am looking to have a career in Finance regardless of the Engineering Backgroud. Is this okay to happen?

You will be surprised when you are studying for the strategic professional exams how much technical content you have actually seen before – it won’t matter that you don’t remember all the details; the fact that you realise that topics should be familiar will make it easier to revisit them rather than have to start again as if from scratch.

It’s quite normal to forget what you learn for exam purposes – but if/when they are relevant to you in the real world – you be able to look them up and learn more about them as necessary; taking on a professional course of study like ACCA is for life-long learning – it doesn’t end with exams.

Last weekend I met up with old friends for the first time in 6 months and we were reminiscing about when we trained as accountants many many years ago – some of the topics we learnt then had wonderful names “commorientes” (sounds like a pacific island) and “advancement and hotchpotch” (sounds like a playground game). We never encountered them in the real world and though they still exist, you wouldn’t find them on a syllabus for accountants now!
