Having pass 3P levels papers at a goal this sitting; i know few people may be willing to glean from experience. I must say, my results are not about to go on competing for OT genius hunt, but it’s definitely good enough to have made me an ACCA affiliate.
I also want to use this forum to invite as many people who have tips/hints to share in order to get our fellow colleagues to the other side. Please share your point in a very succinct & clear manner.
This is how i did it.
P3, P5, P7, Everything you learnt about exam strategy from the OT or other lectures are vital here, please go over it again. Plus, and in addition, you must be able to zero in your activities the very day. Be at the top of your game, don’t loose inner strength, be determine and resolute. Say to yourself “I’M not coming back for the paper again”. My experience wasn’t palatable after the first paper and said to myself, guy, you aren’t coming back for the next two papers. The truth is, I was drained with no strength left in me.
A lot of people have an in-depth knowledge of the syllabus but can’t adapt favorably in the exam, we need as much exam technique as the syllabus coverage and understanding itself. Do everything possible to be in top shape on the exam day. Drinking water in between, it may help clear your vision & thinking.
Don’t leave a particular section or sub untouched. Make an assumption where you’re not certain or do not have an idea what the question is saying. This was helped me with paper p5, Question 2 doesn’t make any sense but then i made an assumption taking a position in support of ABC and off course, making use of the figures in the scenario.
Work out your timing pretty well & pls ensures you get the professional mark on offer; it may be the deciding factor. Look for the article on this. Pray that God lead you right
Good luck in your next attempt.
I hope it helps

August 8, 2013 at 1:32 pm #136498This is my experience of studying ACCA
Having decided to restart my studies 2 1/2 Years ago I decided to try self study as I am in full time employment.
My usual regime for every exam is I study around 2 hours per week from about 4 months out, then I up the work load in the last month.
In the exam week (depending on which day exam is) I take two days off work to study all day and into the evening.
I buy BPP study text and revision KIT
My main study resource however are the video lectures on Open tuition, I find them Invaluable and in my opinion self study for me would be much much more difficult without the online video lectures.I believe that my knowledge of syllabus isn’t the best however exam technique is vital and the open tuition lectures are extremely helpfull in gaining exam technique e.g Time allocation – If your time is up on a question you must leave it and continue on to next question. What I do is leave a bank space for it and if I have time to return I fill the blank in at the end.
I always review my paper at the end for anything really silly that ive put in or to fill a blank with anything I think could be relevant.(I firmly believe that doing this has gained me the extra mark that has resulted in my passing an exam)
since iv’e restarted study i’ve attempted 8 exams and passed 7 (4 to go)
motivation to study for me comes from the fact that i am paying for the exams and the books, my bosses at work offered to pay however i refused as it would be easier not to study if i wasn’t paying for the exams. The one exam I failed has also acted as a motivation for me as I never want to have that sinking feeling when I received the result and whenever I don’t feel like studying I just think about the time I failed the exam.
I also try to cut the amount of work down into managable bits i.e Dont try to think about all 14 exams otherwise it’s all too much !!! just think about the next exam and ignore all else.
I don’t believe that im the brightest spark in the world and my pass marks range from 50% (yesterday P1) to 70% F1 and 64% in F9.
It’s all about hard graft and using your time to the fullest

I was successful in my final 3 papers as well (P1, P4 & P5) all first attempts and it feels great to be an affiliate. Hardwork, sleepless nights and the stress was all worth it.
