    Dear John,

Following your guidance on how to do in the exam article, can you tell us how can we work on writing a better answer.

I understand that practise is key but the questions set are usually different than past papers. please guide us. thank you for your time.

Questions are always different – the examiner is checking that you understand the topic (rather than just learning an answer).

That is why when you are watching our lectures, you make sure that you do understand what is happening and not simply learning ‘rules’ for the calculations.

Other than that (and learning from the answers to past questions) I cannot give any more help on the content of the answers.

With regards to the style of the answers, it is important to keep each point you make fairly brief (but as a sentence) – the examiner always writes more in his answers then he expects from students. You should leave a blank line between each point that you make (so that there is no risk of the marker missing one of your points). And (obviously) you should make sure that your writing is easy to read – the marker will not spend much time trying to make out what you have written if it is not clear.
