Dear Sir,
I humbly request for your advice, I’m currently one paper away (P4) from passing all my exams & I have come to a halt.
If I may give you some background which may help with some direction.
I’ve managed to pass all papers bar this one, Today was my 3rd attempt.1st attempt (September 2015):
In all honesty I didn’t study much as I was concentrating on P5 & P3 at the time, I only sat this paper for experience and I scored 37 ( I did take tuition classes from Kaplan)
2nd attempt (December 2015)
I decided to undertake revision classes (LSBF – a recommended tutor) and was determined to pass as this was my last, I managed to get through 30 or say exam questions while revising on top of the revision class , On the day my exam technique was poor and I over ran on many question hence could not finish, I was expecting a fail, to my surprise I missed a pass by 3 marks and left kicking my self I achieved 47.
3rd Attempt (today)
During the build up I was determined not to repeat my prior mistakes so I built on the knowledge via more exam questions and sticking to time allocation, however I still feel today’s paper didn’t go great and in all honesty I think i’ve failed.
I found that while revising exam questions at home I seem to get near the 50 % mark with my revision notes , but I’m going blank in the exam. I’m not sure if its still a lack of knowledge (F9 & P4) or exam technique.
About my self:
I currently work full time and have a young family with two kids, so my time is split between my career, family life & ACCA.
I’ve read on ACCA website that more reading around this subject is required and just study notes may not be enough ? is this true ?
where shall i go from here, I don’t want to wait till result day as this time would be lost and I could make use of it (reading, exam questions etc)
I would appreciate any advise and thank you in advance
regards
Zahid
March 12, 2016 at 8:07 am #305958Firstly, if you have not already watched them then do watch our free P4 lectures – especially the lectures working through several Question 1’s from recent exams. (In these lectures I discuss the approach to the questions as well as the technical content).
If you are unsure about your F9 knowledge then watch the relevant Paper F9 lectures as well.
Other than that the most important thing of all is practice. If you have already worked through the questions in one Revision Kit then buy one from a different ACCA approved publisher and work through all their questions as well.
Additional reading is always useful, but should not really be necessary – reading and learning from the examiners answers to the written parts of the last few years real exam questions is enough.

Further to my request above just received my result and I’ve failed by 37 %
How would you recommend I structure the following 7 weeks to buildup for exam.
Should I go through your tuition lectures ?Any advice would be great
Regards
April 18, 2016 at 8:20 am #310973I am sorry to hear that you failed.
Yes – I do think it worth watching the lectures (they should be watched in chapter order) especially the lectures working through a few question 1’s from recent papers – in those I discuss the approach to the question as well as work through the technical content.
Other than that it is really practicing as many past questions as possible from your Revision Kit and learning from your mistakes and from the answers.
April 18, 2016 at 6:26 pm #311446Hi John,
another question if I may ?,
i’ve just downloaded the notes for P4, prior to starting the video lecture would you recommend going through the F9 notes & lecture first ?I only have 7 weeks to the exam and a bit unclear should I dive right in or go back to basics? My gut feeling is I should be ok with OT P4 notes and lectures but results say something else.
many thanks
April 19, 2016 at 7:55 am #311603I would go straight into the P4 notes and lectures and then if you come across something that you realise you have forgotten from F9 and have problems, then look at the relevant F9 lectures.
It is vital to leave plenty of time for question practice (and also do read the technical articles on the ACCA website).
