well the way I passed F5 was to try to remember most of the notes in the book, then work on the calculation since the paper is 50% theory and 50% calculation, that way you can score high marks
February 16, 2013 at 8:53 am #117981I am taking the F5 paper as well this term and I think the best way to feel confident is to read and summarize every topic and yes do all the past exams. Do it this way I guaranty you that you will pass the real exam. I had been studying these ways for the F7 and F8, so yeah I passed both paper which I scored 74% for F7 and 64% for F8. Oh! they were both my first attempt. Good luck 🙂
February 16, 2013 at 7:44 pm #118030The syllabus is pretty large so definitely make a plan (both short term – long term) of studying the textbook as you might end up with little time to do practice questions. This was my mistake and i managed to go through past papers only (all under exam conditions). The barely touched revision kit.
Don’t spend too much time on learning theory as there are hardly any pure theory based questions on F5. Maybe except budgeting where you can get a whole 20 mark writing question. Regarding other parts of syllabus, they may ask you theory but questions won’t be worth more than few points. Most of writing questions are based on particular scenario.
Therefore doing practice question is they key. The more you do the better. At start you don’t have to watch the time but the closer the exam is, more questions should be taken under time pressure. Have some days when you do whole 5 questions under time pressure.
To the exam itself. Attempting all questions is crucial, no blank answers left behind! Even if you don’t know write “anything” which you feel is worth even 1 mark.
Time management! Don’t spend more than 36 min per question if you are stuck with question proceed to the next one.If you have further specific doubts or questions feel free to ask i will try to share my thoughts based on experience.
March 27, 2013 at 5:46 am #120762This website should put a big red banner “the more you practice the more chances to pass you have” on top of the each page with questions like “how to pass?”. Isn’t that obvious? It’s like you want to say: “give me some strength, give me some impetus, I’m too lazy to star learning”.
