I got my degree (Accounting & Finance) in 2020 and I have been working as a salesman since I graduated. I have decided to get back my Accounting skills and getting ACCA at the same time, as the company I’m working for is suffering heavy downslide right now, and I’m looking for other opportunities.

After checking the ACCA exemptions calculator, I’m exempted from 9 papers. (BT, MA, FA, LW, AA, FM, FR, PM, TX). However, I’ve never do anything relevant to Accounting since I graduated. I’m worried if I still remember some of the basics. Should I start all over again? Or what important topic should I focus on to get myself back on track? Please give me some advices, thank you in advance!

*ChatGPT suggests me to go through FR, FM and PM (optional) first before preparing for the papers. Not sure if it’s good enough.

I just found that ACCA has a 7 years rule, which means the time left is not enough for me to finish the practical experience. So I should start everything all over again?

The 7 years of the 7-year rule only start after you pass your first strategic professional exam https://www.accaglobal.com/uk/en/student/getting-started/rules-and-regulations-for-students/time-limits.html

I see, thank you for clarifying.

The another question is that I’m exempted from 9 papers (BT, MA, FA, LW, AA, FM, FR, PM, TX), but I haven’t do any accounting related job since graduated from university (2020). I’m worrying about my basics, it’s not completely forgotten but really rusty, should I start from learning the first topic all over again? Or what important topic should I be focused on before aiming the papers (SBL SBR).

Don’t waste your time starting from scratch – the Applied Skills exams include topics that you won’t encounter again at the Strategic Professional level.

ACCA has created a platform just for you – the Student Virtual Learning Centre https://studentvirtuallearn.accaglobal.com. Go to “Get Ready Modules”, then select FR, for example.

The Student VLC is not linked to MyACCA, so if you haven’t used it before you’ll be prompted to create a new account (is very simple).

You will find self-check quizzes on five essential syllabus areas and “knowledge recap” e-learning modules if you are not getting the vast majority of Qs right.

Only do two of PM/TX/AA/FM – the ones for the advanced options you plan to do.
