My RAP has 18 references is this low?
How many does the average project have and should I try to reference more?
I find it quite difficult to make the distinction between what should be referenced and what should not any guidance would be appreciated
November 3, 2014 at 8:15 pm #207568I think I have somewhere between 95-100 references, though some of them might get removed as I try to trim the word count
November 4, 2014 at 7:29 am #207604@wiilliams1977 – there is no definitive answer to this as it depends on the topic and application. Some students ‘over’ reference in the sense that they will reference common definitions or obvious statements – anything that is so well known or has been in the public domain for years is presumed to be ‘common knowledge’ and doesn’t require a reference at all e.g ‘the U.S. President lives in the Whitehouse’ or ‘Thatcherism has its origins in the policies of Margaret Thatcher’. So a RAP that has 50 references all of this type is not better referenced than one that has just a dozen ‘quality’ references to current articles and academic journals.
@sameed no doubt is presuming you have done T8, whereas you have done T3 I believe. T8 requires many references and there are 6 for starters just to the annual reports. However T3 is an entirely different ball game. As long as you have referenced all external sources and the ideas of others and shown the sources of any graphics that are not your own work + followed the rules on referencing do not fret. 18 references for T 3 could well be sufficient, particularly if they are to recent articles and specialist journals. 🙂 - AuthorPosts
