Hi all just wondering how do you study for theses questions as there is no real structure for this??
Any help wud be great
May 28, 2013 at 2:06 pm #127477Have you looked at past exam papers? Questions 2 and 3 are frequently based on a single company with 4 or 5 issues where the company is uncertain about the appropriate accounting treatment. Or it could be 4 or 5 different companies with different issues.
More likely it’s just the one company with 4 / 5 problems.
Question 4 is normally about some current issue. There’s a bit of a difficulty in trying to predict this because the examiner will have prepared the June 2013 exam probably sometime in 2011. Yes, it can be tweaked and I suppose it could be that question 4 gets completely replaced more recently than 18 months ago.
But!! Today’s issues are yesterday’s discussions. What’s topical today? Leases. And there was an article in Student Accountant (September 2012) which examined the lease problem in a readable way
May 28, 2013 at 2:10 pm #127479Thanks for the above! Any suggestion on what could come up in q2 and 3 or what areas are a must to study for them?? I’m not great on knowing the standards etc…..
May 28, 2013 at 2:44 pm #127494No, that’s a problem – not knowing the standards when you’re about to face an Advanced Corporate Reporting exam in a matter of just a few days.
Of course I have no idea what is likely! Again, I suggest you look at the exams since December 2007 inclusive to see what topics have been asked and how the answers are constructed
