how can I obtain OBU degree

Cchiefbala113y ago
hi friend,
I needed the OBU degree but I was told I'm eligible for it. I was told I passed f7 before writing f4. please can anyone advice me on what to do?

Hi chiefbala1

That sounds a bit strange to me. I don't think the order you sit exams is important in the context of the degree - the key thing is that you do not attempt F7,F8 or F9 before ticking the OBU opt in box in myACCA.

Here is the eligibility criteria from the BSc info pack:
***************************************
2. Eligibility
To be awarded the BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting you must:
Be eligible for the degree. This means you must be registered with Oxford Brookes University i.e. opted-in to the BSc degree scheme before passing any of the three ACCA Fundamentals papers, F7, F8 and F9
pass the three ACCA Fundamentals papers F7, F8 and F9 and pass other papers as required to successfully complete all nine Fundamentals level papers
complete the ACCA Professional Ethics module before submitting a Research and Analysis Project to Oxford Brookes University.
complete and pass the Oxford Brookes University Research and Analysis Project
The degree must be completed within 10 years of your start date onto the
ACCA?s professional qualification otherwise your eligibility will be withdrawn
***************************************

Have you satisfied all the criteria above ? If so and you definitely opted into OBU I think it's worth phoning them again.

Hopefully you get this sorted out.

Hi ....i have a question... i m not opted into the the OBU program..i want to get opted into OBU.... i have been told by a friend of mine that i get opted into on the basis of CAT... if anyone can give me advice i would really appreciate that... by the way i have passed 13 papers of ACCA... i am CAT qualified also... this is taken from OBU bsc information pack. 3) Conversion arrangements 3.a) ACCA exam conversion arrangements Oxford Brookes University will recognise any passes or exemptions from Part 1 and Part 2 exams in the ACCA Professional scheme that are converted to the Fundamentals level of the ACCA Qualification, as contributions towards the award of the BSc degree.

hello friends,,\ if u want to have OBU grad degree, u were supposed to have opted for OBU grad degree before passing any of these exams f7, f8 and f9, once u have passed any of the exams without opting, then u cant opt in for OBU grad degree nor u can pursue further in this regard.

Hi Anna, I have a question: I already am opted in the OBU Degree(opted in when I registered with ACCA). I completed my F1-F3 papers. Now I'm doing F5, F7 and F9 for the June 2014 sittings. I'll do F4, F6 and F9 for Dec 2014 sittings. In 2015, will I still be able to do the OBU degree given that I'm already opted in but actually pass F7 and F9 before passing F4? Thanks

But it says and I quote from ACCA website: "be registered with Oxford Brookes University ie have opted in to the BSc degree scheme and hold a suitable English language qualification before passing any of the three ACCA Fundamentals papers, F7, F8 and F9" I'm already opted in but as for the suitable english language qualification(which would be F4), needs to be done before F7=F9 even though I'm already opted into the degree? And thank you for your prompt reply. Really nice of you :)

Hi All, I was in the same dilemma in 2009 after the conversion and so I emailed ACCA and here is the reply "If you wish to be considered for the Oxford Brookes scheme you will need to pass F4 before attempting F7, F8 or F9, therefore the combination of F4 & F7 in the same examination session you have suggested is not possible unless you have a previous qualification which meets the English requirement, the reason for this is that should you pass both papers your eligibility will automatically be withdrawn." My case was different as earlier 1.3 used to serve as proof of English proficiency which I had cleared before syllabus conversion so I sat F4 and F7 together and passed both in same attempt and I have BSc. in hand now. Hope this will be helpful.

from STUDENTS' FAQS ON THE OXFORD BROOKES DEGREE: "To be awarded the BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting you must: be registered with Oxford Brookes University ie have opted in to the BSc degree scheme and hold a suitable English language qualification before passing any of the three ACCA Fundamentals papers, F7, F8 and F9" and: "If you do not hold a suitable English language qualification. Oxford Brookes University deems Paper F4 as proof of English proficiency. Therefore you should complete this exam and opt in to the BSc degree before passing Papers F7 to F9."

though my question from Anna – OBU mentor and the Participants is that, is IGCSE O LEVELS in English as second language is a suitable English language qualification or it is not? thanks!
AAleem12y ago#12
Thank you so much Ms Anna! your help is highly appreciated. but my problem continues as there were the qualifications close mine so I e-mailed them and they will reply me in 7-10 working days. Although there is one very interesting thing that I found and would like to share with my fellow students is that it says :"ACCA qualification paper F4 – Corporate and Business Law (last EP acceptable session June 2014) " so after june 2014 sitting f4 will no more will be a suitable English language qualification. That's because its format is changing from an essay type paper to more mcq and short questions here's the link https://www.accaglobal.com/content/dam/ACCA_Global/Students/fun/f4/expap/f4eng_d14-specimen.pdf (so add that on your blog Anna) thank you! ok I think my problem is solved because on my Oxford Brookes status in myacca it says: you will be opted into the ACCA/Oxford Brookes Degree Partnership on completion of Paper F4" so guys check your status..

Hi Anna, once again thank you very much for being so helpful to me. I've just checked your website and from the list: 9. A pass in either A Level or at least 2 passes at GCE O Level in subjects which require a good comprehension of English, e.g. British Constitution; British Government; Communication Studies; Law; Economics; General Studies; History; Philosophy; Psychology; Religious Studies; Sociology; Pakistan Studies; Islamic Studies / Islamiyat; Business Studies ---I have studied Economics at O-Level and got a credit and at A-Level as subsidiary though but got an e which I think is a pass. Some of my other subjects at O-Level were Accounting, Computer Studies and Addmaths. I also got a credit in English Language at O-Level. 15. University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate – General paper (O or A) ----As for that one, does it mean Cambridge Exams at A-Level and O-Level? If yes, then I got an a in General Paper at A-Level and credit in english language at O-Level. So do you think I'll be eligible even if I pass F7-F9 paper first before passing paper F4? Thanks and btw if ever I'm eligible for the degree, you'll definitely be my mentor :D
TTyler12y ago#15
@Aleem, my status for the OBU on myacca states I'm already opted into. My only worry is if I pass F7-F9 before passing F9, then I'll no longer be eligible for the degree.
AAleem12y ago#16
@Tyler.Hmmm... I think your economics will do. but don't know about your other subjects because there has to be two o levels. but your status sounds perfect. because mine says "you will be opted". Which is a good news for you. but still lets see what Anna has to say about you. and do one more thing. send an e mail to [email protected] with your o and as level erificate and ask them, or you can even call them and ask them. so that you are a 100% sure. good-luck...
AAleem12y ago#17
yea... thanks for helping. and good work for creating a new forum and updating your blog about f4, so students who are doing f1-f6 should know that they have to have a english language qualification other than f4 to be able to opt for OBU.
