I studied F1, F2 and F3 myself at home. I then went to a kaplan class for F4 and F5, as my work were paying for it.
However, I have just changed jobs and am no longer getting the full funding for classroom attendance.
As a result, I now need to decide how I am going to study for F6 and F7.
I think classes are too expensive for me just now, so therefore I am left with Distance learning, online material, or ‘Live online’ classes.
Does anyone have any thoughts on whether F6 and F7 are best learnt in a class, or has anyone take a ‘live online’ tutorials?
In general is it very possible to pass by simply doing home study?
Thanks for your thoughts in advance
June 29, 2011 at 10:46 pm #85669I beleive that all skills level papers can be successfully prepared and passed using self-study only. Not even a live online or distant class. Simply books and all the videos that are now freely available in internet.
For F6 like for any paper you need to practice. It’s a computation one , so u need to practice as many questions as u can, you need to get used to proformas so that u can lay them out automatically and then just fill in with numbers.
F6 is a relatively easy paper , but there is a good saying about it : It’s the easiest to pass, but also the easiest to fail.
Easy to fail because there is no common sense there, just rules 🙂F7 is tough, but i am only going to sit it myself this time, so I won’t comment about it 🙂
You know , if u have enough money to buy those distant classes, i would rather suggest you to buy a pack of kaplan materials (book , revision kit and poket notes) and BPP (book and kit).
Using all those together with OT notes and lectures, EXP notes and lectuers , plus LSBF which is available nowadays will definately ensure you a pass 🙂Concentrating just on one book won’t be enough 🙂
best of luck !
June 30, 2011 at 12:35 pm #85670Thanks Ansi, that’s some good advice. I haven’t seen the LSBF for F6 anywhere. I’ve seen lots of other ones, but not this one.
However, I think you may be on to something with buying both the Kaplan and the BPP texts and kits for self study, for the range of questions and the different approaches to explanation.
Definitely food for thought.
I am also going to be sitting F7 too. That one I am really not sure about what to do study wise. It may well be worth the money paying for classroom study myself, but I’m not sure.
I guess I have a little time to make up my mind.
Good luck with your exams Ansi.

July 31, 2011 at 6:32 am #85672Hi,
Ansi´s advice would be exactly the same as mine. Kaplan text book and revision kit for both F6 and F7 are the best.
I do self study as that is the only option that I have with the limited amount of fund and time.
I have got GTG, BPP and finally Kaplan text book for F7 and I can say F7 is the best of all. I am sure it applies the same as for F6.
Both papers requires reading the text book and do the exercises as fast as you can and spend a lot more time in doing the revision kit exercises as many times as you can.
I highly recommend OT video lectures and course note for F6. They are first class of all. I cannot speak for F7 that highly as I had so many confusions uncleared especially when it came to doing the CASH FLOW statements. Nevertheless, it is quite good.
Good luck.
