The notes, as well as the discussion from the lecture, mentioned that the Hygiene Theory relates to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Specifically, the physiological and safety needs are classified as the hygiene factors while the remaining are the motivating factors.
Now for my question, aren’t “social needs” likely to be classified as one of the hygiene factors? Because if you try to look at the notes, it was mentioned there that the “reasonable relations with colleagues and your superiors” is included as a hygiene factor. In my opinion, due to that example, it falls into social needs in the hierarchy as well, doesn’t it?
Kindly enlighten me and correct me if I’m wrong. Thank you!
Think this could come down to difference between a reasonable workplace environment (not negative) and a positive and supportive work environment. Could be both hygiene factor and motivating factor. Not sure if I have expressed this well. Hope this helps.

Can you explain me with example of each?
I think this will vary quite a bit between individuals depending on their personality. Depending on how introverted or extroverted they are they may require less or more social interaction. However, imagine a workplace where people sign in to work, the manager acknowledges the sign in but engages in no other non-work related talk. Following this employees are sent into cubicles with no lines of sight to each other and non-work communications between employees are banned. Breaks are also staggered and spent alone. Most people would find the above highly demotivating.
Now consider a workplace that offers workplace social activities. Possibly related to achievement of goals such as an awards night at a conference centre or similar. Possibly even something simpler such as a meal at Christmas.
