This is directed to those who are resitting this exam for the 5th time and above, all i can say is i feel your pain. What about those under 5 attempts you may ask? Well here is the deal…
After failing this exam over and over and the number of attempts keep rising, especially over 5, it completely takes out every single drop of confidence you have on yourself, self esteem is at an all time low and don`t get me started on the embarrassment on yourself, your colleagues and family.
After questioning my ability, i was growing more and more frustrated with ACCA as this was my last exam standing in my way just to get on the other side.
Believe me i took every advice available out there; from Time management, Understanding what Alex Watt types of questions, Being aware of the global business environment, applying the information/data i learnt from the course material, attending classes, Doing past exam papers under strict exam conditions, even taking time off the exams and coming back fresh etc the list goes on, yet i still failed.
Well if your reading this and saying “well clearly the problem is you mate”.. i guess i will take it. But i know someone out there is feeling like this right now. I just want to stress though that i flew through all the other exams with no problem, but just could not get over this one.I am absolutely ( trying to find a nice way of saying this) Pissed off with the P5 EXAM. not only has it cost me a fortune in repeat exam fees but my time dedicated to study etc.
Coming on to this forum, in the past after getting the results of a fail again, and reading the post of those who have passed (Fair play to them well deserved) would be depressing, mostly because i wished to be them.
I even remember reading about a petition being started to request the ACCA to change the examiner as it seemed that passing this paper became more and more impossible. I wanted to be the first to sign up.Fast forward to June 2015 just like any other time in the past i was getting ready to have a go at this exam, this was my 6th attempt. I am not claiming to be some kind of genius or anything like that, i FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY Passed this exam and i`m glad to say i am an ACCA affiliate, i am also 100% convinced it was pure luck, i don’t care what anybody thinks and what the ACCA say on their website, but i believe this is a F*&^5$ numbers game to them, because they is nothing different i did in this exam, i didn’t do in the previous 5 exams.
Well!!!! fellow ACCA Colleagues particular those who have failed it enough to be as pissed off as i am,,,, i say hang in there folks, don’t let this F*&(*^%* paper break you. Don`t give up (I remember reading this from a previous post when i had failed, and thinking well… its easy for you to say) but truly, truly don’t give up. I will not sit here and pretend i know what you should do to pass this awful, awful exam, but clearly if its not working the first time, trying doing or approaching it different maybe just maybe it could work for you.You wouldn’t be at the final stages if you didn’t know how to approach the Professional exams, so get all the advice out there find what works for you. There are pretty good posts on this forum on how to tackle the exam and go for it.
Thank you for listening to my RANT!!!!!!!! and i wish you all the best of luck in your exams.
P/s if that petition is still going around please send it to me i have one BIG FAT signature to give.
August 8, 2015 at 11:14 am #266229Thank you for this post! i will be taking this exam for the 3rd time and has caused me alot of problems despite the amount work i have put in..
You are right! keep going and trying! But i am honestly lost as to how to approach it or study for it.
August 10, 2015 at 10:18 am #266508Thank you for your encouraging post. I have failed this paper a number of times and am not going to give up believing that I didn’t not start ACCA to stop at P5. For those struggling out there look at this as temporary set back which we shall overcome. Good luck in the forthcoming exams.

Hey i am speechless when it comes to P5, i just do n’t know but i believe keeping to encourage each other will finally get there. Let’s be strong as we already traveled a long way, we are about to reach our destiny its just a storm it will be over………..
November 3, 2015 at 11:27 am #280262Dec-15 will be my 5th attempt. I am from Bangladesh, an underdeveloped or developing country. I am giving every penny to ACCA what I am earning. This is the last subject to be passed. But problem is that, in Bangladesh, there is no tuition provider to find out a single word from the stomach of Alex. So what about us..
So don’t give up and keep paying ACCA and keep trying 6th….7th…..8th….and so on.
From the above posts, I am pretty much sure that we have to rely on role of luck not on study or knowledge.
i am sure about another point that Alex Watt decides every time what he wants when examine the answers from students. Because 70% to 75% students are wrong that means he likes to think differently than all are thinking.
For Alex Watt “Be Specific, Be Transparent and Be SMART”
Don’t worry ACCA I will give you more because I don’t have any option to give up because I have only one to pass.
November 4, 2015 at 2:12 pm #280466Good luck. Its my 7th attempt of P5 in this December. I will try to give it my all this time and make it my last attempt, and if it doesn’t pass i would change to P6…
January 19, 2016 at 2:07 am #296066I took it a couple times also, was damn pissed off. In the end I switched to p7 and passed first attempt, finally an affiliate now. I regret not switching earlier, wasted so much money and time!! So for those who are still struggling, this is definitely an option.
January 22, 2016 at 3:58 pm #297287brother what is ur result for p5 exam..
January 22, 2016 at 4:02 pm #297288Same is the case with me. have you passed p5 now??
April 16, 2016 at 7:47 pm #310388This paper has been a torn on my flesh. Can you imagine i have been writing this paper since i can remember. The closest i got to was 46% when i was 100% sure that was my last sitting. Here i am once again reading the same material all over just to take the exam again in June. This paper has really frustrated me. But i am confident i will pass in June.I am pretty sure come after the june 2016 results, i will be singing a new song.I know i have taken this paper more than 6 times but i am not giving up. Guys let do it! Never say die until the bones are rotten. This June 2016, P5 will fall heavily.
Enjoy your week.October 17, 2016 at 7:56 am #343924I passed on the third attempt of this paper. It was depressing to fail a syllabus that was not very hard. Frankly I hate writing and this required tremendous amount of it. On my first attempt I got a 46 where I entered the examination thinking it was just another easy theory paper. The second attempt I entered thinking I just have to write as much as I could and it was worse than the first attempt where I scored 40.
Then I started to read forums such as these which is really helpful. This helped me understand that it was not just about theory and writing. There are specific terms such as explain / evaluate / describe for which I understood the true meanings of these. Also I practiced much more papers literally writing down each answers and formulating strategies to answer such as first noting down points and then putting them on the paper. Yet as I entered the exam hall, I managed to complete only 75% of the paper but by the grace of God managed to score 55%.
So in short practice writing as many papers as you can. Understand the requirement of the questions and the terms used. Understand enough theory and finally ask for God’s grace through Christ 😉
October 22, 2016 at 10:39 pm #345635Pls help me go on Whatsup chat for Dec resit 07903368325. Thanks

Thanks for invaluable advise I was really thinking to do what you said, and you gave me confidence to take P7 and P6 instead of P7 and P5.
August 3, 2017 at 2:23 am #400090I failed for ten times and finally I pass it. It is purely luck. So don’t give up.

My 7th attempt in Sept 2017. Feel like killing myself studying the same thing over and over again.
totally agree with luck being the main factor for this godforsaken paper. I don’t understand how i can go wrong when i have practical experience in management accounting for 11 years, being a Senior Manager at a big 4 acc firm, P5 textbook knowledge in my finger tips and using the right technique (i know i write the same way as the answer in the past year papers). Where did i go wrong??
extremely frustrated with Alex Watt!!!. This would be my last attempt for this paper, if i dont get through, i am planning to switch to P4..
p/s: send through the petition if any of you come across it, i want to sign and fully support it

Guess what… i passed P5 in Sept 2017 (my 7th attempt). Nothing different i did this time around compared to my other 6 times yet i passed the paper. I rest my case, luck being the main or the only factor for P5.
Good luck to all of you. May the force (and luck) be with you!

oh God my story
July 16, 2018 at 2:03 pm #463184I can understand your frustration at the exam that took so much of your time and efforts. Funny as it may seem, but I went through an identical scenario with three papers – P1, P3 and P5. The material they all covered seemed so likeable and simple, yet I could not pass any of them at first attempt. And every time I was getting angry enough to resit without any revision or additional study. And it did work for all of these papers! At the resittings I could hardly remember the recommended analytical models, so I was just writing in a carefree manner whatever was popping up in my head. These are funny exams, really.. Thank God I am an affiliate now..!
