This is a financial instrument – a holding in an investment that could be in the form of shares, a fixed interest bond or indeed anything. It’s held as an investment for income or capital appreciation or both.

At the date of acquisition, the company had to make a decision – shall we account for any movement through other comprehensive income or shall we elect to reflect movements through profit or loss.

This company has chosen to reflect changes through profit or loss

    OK?
